Glen L Hoge

A Celebration of Life Service for Glen L. Hoge will be held at a later date in Alma, Nebraska.

Glen Leroy Hoge, 87 years of age, of Alma, passed away on Wednesday, April 1, 2020, at the Beaver City Manor in Beaver City, Nebraska. Glen was born on the family farm in Jefferson County, near Fairbury, Nebraska on November 27, 1932, to Jess and Adeline "Addy" (Norwood) Hoge. He received his education from Fairbury Public Schools, graduating from Fairbury High School with the class of 1948.

Following his education, Glen worked on the family farm. On March 10,1953, he enlisted into the United States Army. He was honorably discharged on February 24, 1955.

On February 28, 1962, Glen was united in marriage to Wanda F. Barnum, at Grace Lutheran Church in Fairbury. The couple made their home in Fairbury for two years before moving to Olympia, Washington, where Glen was employed at a Plywood Mill. In 1998, the couple relocated to Alma.

Glen and Wanda were avid bird watchers, and enjoyed birding together all over the country. The couple were coauthors of the book, "Birds of the Ocean Shores," which yielded information on the timing of migrations, abundance, and casual occurrences of over 290 species along the Washington coast.

Glen started his interest in birds when he was in high school; he would frequent Crystal Springs, the local lake near Fairbury, and would report to the Nebraska Ornithologists' Union as to what birds he found. In 1963, Glen became a lifetime member of the Nebraska Ornithologists' Union.

Besides his parents, Glen was preceded in death by; his brother, Bill Hoge.

He leaves to celebrate his life: his wife, Wanda Hoge of Alma; and several nieces, nephews and many, many friends.
