A Graveside Service and Inurnment for Gloria A. Melbye will be held on Friday, March 10, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. at Fort McPherson National Cemetery in rural Maxwell, Nebraska, with Pastor Jan Gluth King officiating.
Gloria Annette Melbye, 78 years of age, of Alma, Nebraska, died on Sunday, March 5, 2023, at the Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege, Nebraska. Gloria was born on April 1, 1944, at the Brewster Hospital in Holdrege, the second of three children, born to Albert and Edna (Borden) Van Dyke. She attended Holdrege Public Schools and graduated with the class of 1962. Following her graduation, she began taking classes at the Lincoln Business Institute in Lincoln, Nebraska.
On May 23 rd , 1964, Gloria was united in marriage to Ronald Melbye at the Presbyterian Church in Holdrege. The couple began to make their home in Kearney, Nebraska. They were blessed with one son: Mike.
Gloria had a long career in word processing, including owning her own business, and in later years worked as the Superintendent for Mahoney State Park.
Gloria enjoyed attending and participating in Bible study at Bethel Lutheran Church in Holdrege and tending to her vegetable garden.
Gloria was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by: her husband, Ron Melbye of Alma; son, Mike Melbye of Lincoln; granddaughter, Skylar Melbye-Ethington and great-grandson, Jaymin Ethington both of Lincoln; two brothers: Steve Van Dyke; and Dan Van Dyke; plus many nieces and nephews.
There will be no visitation or viewing. The family has honored her wish for cremation.
A memorial has been established in Gloria's honor.
