Funeral Services for Gordon W. Loschen will be held on Monday, July 11, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Peace Lutheran Church in Alma, Nebraska with Pastor Paul Ferrarone officiating. Interment will be held in the Emmanuel Lutheran Cemetery southeast of Hildreth, Nebraska.
Gordon William Loschen was born on December 27, 1937 at home in rural Franklin County, Nebraska, to Henry and Jennie (Bunger) Loschen and passed away on Thursday, July 7, 2016 at the CHI Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Nebraska surrounded by his family at the age of 78. He grew up in Hildreth and graduated from Hildreth High School with the class of 1955. He attended the University of Nebraska for one year and then Milford Technical College, majoring in Electronics. During his college years, Gordon served in the National Guard.
On February 8, 1959, Gordon married June Faye Johnson and their first home was in Arapahoe, Nebraska, where he was employed by Lockenour Furniture as a TV repairman and carpet layer. In 1962, they moved to Overton, Nebraska and was employed at Plectron Fire Reporting Systems for 17 years. In 1978, they moved to Sidney, Nebraska with his employment at Midweck Wire and Cable Company. Gordon later joined Farm Bureau Insurance in 1980 and then moved to Alma in 1982, where he managed the Harlan County Farm Bureau Multi-line Insurance Agency.
Gordon was active in Overton, Sidney and Alma communities. He served on the Volunteer Fire Department, was First Aid Captain, President of the School Board, member of Kiwanis and Rotary, and was involved in various church committees. Gordon also enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing and playing cards.
Gordon and June have taken wonderful trips through Farm Bureau which included: Switzerland, Hawaii, Vienna, Austria, a Caribbean cruise, and a trip to Germany, where they visited their ancestors on the Loschen and Johnson-Osterbuhr families.
He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings: Janice Christensen, Gerald Loschen, and Gloria Hinson; and granddaughter, Carli Christensen.
Gordon leaves to celebrate his life; his wife of 57 years, June of Alma; four daughters: Lana Christensen and her husband, Mark of Raymond, Nebraska, Lori Hartzler and her husband, Mike of North Richland Hills, Texas, Linda Humpal and her husband, Jason of Ft. Collins, Colorado; and Lynette Gruwell and her husband, Roger of Hildreth; 11 grandchildren: Coleman Christensen and his wife, Kara; Conner Christensen and his wife, Molly; Cason and Callie Christensen; Michael Hartzler and his wife, Rachel; Payton, Parker, and Patrick Humpal; Sophie, Sidney, and Samuel Gruwell; one great-grandson, Michael David Hartzler; one brother, Roger Loschen and his wife, Sharon of Kearney; one sister, Carolee Whipple and her husband, Kerry of Blue Hill, Nebraska; sister-in-law, Sharron Loschen of Kearney; brother-in-law, Gerald Christensen of Kearney; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives on the Johnson side of the family and many friends.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 10, 2016 from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 1:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. at the Bauer-Torrey & Mach Funeral Home in Alma.
A memorial has been established in Gordon's honor and kindly suggested to the Alma Medical Clinic or the Peace Lutheran Church.
