A Funeral Service for Harold “Maynard” Oertle will be held on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege, Nebraska, with his grandson, Mr. Matthew Lounsbury officiating.

A visitation will be held prior to the service from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., at the funeral home. Following the service, he will be cremated.

A private inurnment will be held at the Prairie Home Cemetery, Holdrege.

Harold “Maynard” Oertle, 84 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, at Holdrege Memorial Homes in Holdrege. Maynard was born in North Platte, Nebraska, on June 4, 1942, the youngest of four boys, born to Charlie J. and Edith E. (Montgomery) Oertle. He received his education from Kearney Public Schools. During his school years, Maynard was an active Boy Scout and attained his Eagle Scout.

On October 23, 1964, Maynard was united in marriage to Shirley Ann Harding. This union was blessed with two daughters: Angela Kay and Annette Renae. The couple lived in different south central Nebraska communities until settling in Holdrege.

Maynard worked for different farmers and construction companies throughout the years and learned many skills and trades. He drove truck on and off during his life and also worked for Artistic Woven Labels and Hawkins Manufacturing. He retired from his last job due to health reasons and to care for his wife.

In is free time, Maynard enjoyed hunting, fishing and tinkering and building many projects. He was a member of the United Methodist Church and NRA.

Maynard was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Edith Oertle; his wife, Shirley in 2003; and his brothers: Bernard Dean Oertle; Eugene (Verla) Karsten; and Charlie (Carole) Oertle

Maynard is survived by his daughters: Angela Houser of Columbus, Nebraska; and Annette Oertle of Alexandria, Louisiana; five grandchildren: Brandon Houser (Brandie McConnell and her children, Isabel, Laila, Rayven, and Kaleb) of Holdrege; Felicia Hein of Columbus; Dillon Houser of Minatare, Nebraska; Rachel Lounsbury of Mashpee, Massachusetts; and Matthew Lounsbury and wife, Katie of Bloomington, Minnesota; seven great-grandchildren: Eden and Bayn Houser; Peyton Hein; Isabella Lounsbury, Samuel Lounsbury, Magnolia Lounsbury, and soon to arrive, baby Lounsbury; two sisters-in-laws: Helen Oertle of California; and Marilyn Wolzen of Grand Island, Nebraska; nieces, along with other relatives, and friends.

A memorial has been established in Maynard’s honor to the family for future designation.
