Memorial Services for H. Dean Verbeck will be held on Saturday, February 20, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Holdrege with Rev. Dr. W. Kirwin Stewart, Jr. officiating. Inurnment will be at Prairie Home Cemetery in Holdrege.
Harold "Dean" Verbeck, 81 years of age, of Holdrege, Nebraska, passed away on Tuesday, February 16, 2010 at his home in Holdrege. He was born on November 10, 1928 at rural Funk, Nebraska the 8th child of 11 children born to Arthur and Nina (Giles) Verbeck.
Dean grew up on the family farm north of Funk and attended the Funk rural school.
Dean was a member of the Nebraska Army National Guard and the American Legion Post #66 of Holdrege.
He enjoyed collecting coins, barbed wire and antiques. He was a true wheeler-dealer, a man who enjoyed people and interacting with friends.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers: Lewarren Verbeck, Don Verbeck and Robert Verbeck; one sister, Melinda Ann Verbeck; and one nephew: Jim Owen.
He leaves to mourn his passing, his two children: DeAnn Nickel and her husband, Tom of Kearney, Nebraska, Richard Verbeck and his wife, Lynette of Axtell, Nebraska; four grandchildren: Scott Nickel and his wife, Janah of Westminster, Colorado, Danny Nickel of Kearney, Chad and Travis Verbeck of Omaha, Nebraska; one brother: Bill Verbeck and his wife, Norma of California; five sisters: Dorothy Cain and her husband, Merlen of Kearney, Edith Owen of Kearney, Ardith Bendler of Lexington, Betty Colburn of Colorado, Joan Horn and her husband, Eugene of Holdrege; one sister-in-law: Phyllis Verbeck of Funk; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
There will be no visitation as the family is honoring his wish for cremation.
A memorial has been established in his memory and will be designated at a later date.
