Private Family Graveside Services for Harold M. Lanham will be conducted from the Ft. McPherson National Cemetery at Maxwell, Nebraska with military honors provided by the North Platte Veterans Organization in conjunction with the U. S. Marine Corps Honor Guard.
Harold Maurice Lanham, 87 years of age, of Holdrege, Nebraska, passed away on Saturday, April 18, 2009 at the Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege. Harold was born on June 3, 1921 at Gothenburg, Nebraska, the son of Preston and Elizabeth (Pollat) Lanham. Harold received his primary education in rural Dawson County and then graduated from Gothenburg High School.
Following his education, Harold served his country in the Unites States Marine Corps during World War II. He enlisted at Kansas City, Missouri on September 23, 1944 and was honorably discharged on November 25, 1946. During his service, he served as a Basic Engineer in the Asiatic Pacific area. He was involved with action against the enemy at Okinawa, the occupation of Japan, and China. Following his service, Harold made his home in Holdrege, where he was employed by John Deere. Later in years, he worked as a Road Maintainer for the Phelps County Department of Roads.
He leaves to mourn his passing, nephews: Charles Lanham and his wife, Marilyn of Cheyenne, Wyoming, Stanley Youngberg and niece, Kathi Youngberg both of Grants Pass, Oregon; and a host of other relatives and friends. Harold was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Pete Lanham and Bird Lanham and one sister, Betty MacIntosh.
There will be no visitation.
A memorial has been established in his memory and kindly suggested to the Holdrege Memorial Homes.
