Memorial Services for Harold E. Peterson will be conducted from the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege, Nebraska on Wednesday, September 19, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Gary Panko officiating. Private Family Inurnment will be held at a later date at the Moses Hill Cemetery in rural Phelps County, Nebraska.
Harold Edward Peterson, 86 years of age of Bertrand, Nebraska, passed away on Monday, September 17, 2012 at Bryan LGH-East in Lincoln, Nebraska. He was born September 17, 1926 at Loomis, Nebraska, the youngest of seven children born to John Peter and Anna Cecilia (Nelson) Peterson. He received his education from Bertrand and Curtis, Nebraska, graduating from the Nebraska School of Agriculture in Curtis with the class of 1945. He was inducted into the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and served his country from March 13, 1951 until his honorable discharge on December 11, 1952. Following his service, Harold returned home to Bertrand and engaged in farming with his brothers north of Bertrand.
On April 19, 1953 he was united in marriage to Betty Lou Smith and to this union three sons were born: Dennis, David, and John Paul. The family continued to make their home on the family farm north of Bertrand. In the spring of 1982, Harold and Betty moved to their present home south of Bertrand.
He was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Bertrand, where he ushered for many years. Harold was also a member of the V.F.W. Harold loved to read, especially anything that had to do with Nebraska History. He also enjoyed a good conversation with his friends during a cup of coffee. In his later years, Harold enjoyed playing Dominoes with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Harold leaves to mourn his passing; his wife, Betty of Bertrand; three sons: Dennis Peterson and his wife, Mary of Bertrand, David Peterson of Bellevue, Nebraska and John Paul Peterson and his long time girlfriend, Chris Walston of Bertrand; four grandchildren: Seth Peterson and his wife, Angel, Jillian Beard and her husband, Jake, Nathan Peterson and Lucas Peterson; three great-grandchildren: Jana, Gage and Ava Peterson; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Besides his parents, Harold was preceded in death by three brothers: Oliver, Paul, and Clarence Peterson; and three sisters: Helen Louthan, Eunice Peterson and Florence Sall.
There will be no visitation; the family is honoring his wish for cremation.
A memorial has been established in his memory and will be designated at a later date.
