Harriet Dahlstet, 96 years of age, of Omaha, Nebraska (formerly of Holdrege), passed away on Wednesday, May 23, 2007 at the Rose Blumkin Home in Omaha.

Harriet was born December 13, 1910 on the family farm in the Williamsburg Township in northern Phelps County, Nebraska, the second of five children of O.B. and Cassie (Kedey) Marshall. She received her primary education in rural schools and then graduated from Holdrege High School with the class of 1929. Harriet then pursued higher education to receive her normal training at Kearney State Teachers College and then taught for several years in rural schools in Phelps County.

In 1935 she was united in marriage to Bernerd Dahlstet at North Platte, Nebraska and to this union two sons were born: John and Forrest. The couple farmed northeast of Bertrand for a few years before moving to North Platte in 1940 at which time Bernerd began working for the Union Pacific Railroad. On May 21, 1947, Bernerd was killed in a railroad accident.

Harriet and her sons lived in North Platte until June of 1953 when they returned to Holdrege. Harriet remained in Holdrege, working for the Office Supply Store until the late 1960s when she moved to Denver, Colorado. She returned to Holdrege in 1969 to care for her mother during her last days and returned to Denver in June 1970. She remained in Denver with her sisters: Inez and Roberta until December of 1997. Harriet returned to Holdrege in January 1998 to spend some months with her brother, Harold Marshall and then moved to Omaha in November of 1998, where she lived at the Immanuel Lakeside Village to be near her son, Forrest. She was living at Lakeside Village at the time of her death.

Harriet's devotion to her family and their welfare was the sterling quality of her life. She gave selflessly in caring for various family members, beginning with the challenge of raising two sons alone. She was the sole caregiver for her mother-in-law, Addie Hanson and gave of herself in the care of her parents in their old age. She suffered deeply in the loss of her sister-in-law, Dorothy Marshall and of her sister, Inez Marshall. Her greatest pleasure in life revolved around family and her greatest happiness was knowing that her family was safe and doing well.

Harriet leaves to mourn her passing her two sons: John Dahlstet and his wife, Connie of Fruit Heights, Utah and Forrest Dahlstet and his wife, Ellen of Omaha; three granddaughters: Katherine of Fruit Heights, Kristina of East Wakefield, NH and Elizabeth of Woodbridge, VA; five great-grandchildren; two sisters: Roberta Lundstrom of San Jose, California and Roxana Lind of Kearney, Nebraska; one brother, Harold Marshall and his wife, Bonnie of Holdrege and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Besides her husband, Bernerd, she was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Inez Marshall.
