Funeral Services for Harvey V. Richman will be held on Monday, July 22, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the Huntley United Methodist Church in Huntley, Nebraska with Pastors Dave Mendyk and Jean Clayton officiating.  Burial will follow in the Bainbridge Cemetery, in rural Harlan County, Nebraska, with military honors provided by the United States Army Funeral Honors Team.

Harvey Vernon Richman, 91 years of age, of Alma, Nebraska, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, July 12, 2019 at his son's home in Raymond, Nebraska.  Harvey was born January 31, 1928, in Huntley, the youngest of four children born to Marshal and Mildred (Rutan) Richman.   He received his education from Huntley Public Schools and graduated from Huntley High School, with the class of 1945.

On December 12, 1948, Harvey was united in marriage to Zella D. McConnell at the First United Methodist Church in Holdrege, Nebraska.  The couple made their home in the Huntley area and to this union, two sons were born:  Steve and Rick.

Harvey enlisted into the United States Army on February 27, 1952 and served during the Korean Conflict with the 98 th Military Police on Okinawa and in Japan.  Harvey earned the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.  He was honorably discharged on February 9, 1954.  Upon returning to civilian life, he went back to farming.

During his years of farming, Harvey also worked at the Harlan County ASC Office; was the tank wagon operator for Huntley Irrigation; worked at the Huntley CO-OP Elevator; and was the Huntley school bus driver for 10 years.

Harvey loved sports and was an avid horseman.  He was an active member of the community, serving on the Huntley Village Board; the Washington Township Board; the Huntley School Board; was active on the Board of the Huntley United Methodist Church; was the Bainbridge Cemetery record keeper; and was a Master Mason with the Jachin Lodge #146 of Holdrege.  In 1987, Harvey and Zella moved to Alma, where he became the Harlan County Senior Center bus driver until his retirement in 1995.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Rick Lee Richman in 2007; his wife of 71 years, Zella Richman on June 12, 2019; and his siblings.

Harvey leaves to celebrate his life; his son, Steve Richman and his wife, Gloria of Raymond, Nebraska; five grandchildren and their spouses; eight great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Wanda McConnell of Phillipsburg, Kansas; along with several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 21, 2019 from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 1:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. at the Bauer-Torrey & Mach Funeral Home in Alma.

A memorial has been established in Harvey's honor, and kindly suggested to the family for later designation.
