Funeral Services for Hazel I. Goings will be conducted at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege, Nebraska on Wednesday, April 9, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Linda Knipping-Potts officiating. Interment will follow in the Prairie Home Cemetery.
Hazel Irene Goings, 94 years of age, of Bertrand, Nebraska, formerly of Holdrege, passed away on Sunday, April 6, 2014 at the Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege. Hazel was born March 6, 1920 on the family farm in Harlan County, Nebraska, the second of three children born to Leroy "Roy" and Annie "Ella" (Urbom) Ranz. She attended primary school at a country school in Harlan County later graduating from the Atlanta High School with the class of 1938.
Hazel was united in marriage to Merton Goings on May 25, 1941 and this union was blessed with four children: Joan, Robert, Ferd and James. The family made their home in Axtell, Nebraska where Merton taught and coached basketball and football. Merton and Hazel also began farming south of Atlanta at this time. Hazel worked at Becton-Dickenson until her retirement.
Hazel was a member of the Mascot-Bethel Evangelical United Brethren Church. She served as the Sunday school teacher.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Merton in 1995; brother, Robert Ranz; and sister, Maurine Kirby.
Hazel leaves to mourn her passing, her children: Joan Moon and her husband, Heath of Burbank, California, Robert Goings and his wife, Evelyn of Gothenburg, Nebraska, Ferd Goings and his wife, Mimi of Papillion, Nebraska, and Jim Goings and his wife, Carol of Broken Bow, Nebraska; 10 grandchildren; along with several nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 8, 2014 from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege.
A memorial has been established in Hazel's honor and will be designated at later date.
