Funeral Services for Hazel D. Loar will be conducted from the First United Methodist Church in Holdrege, Nebraska on Tuesday, July 20, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Dale Lambert, officiating. Interment will be in the Prairie Home Cemetery at Holdrege.

Hazel Doris (Anderson) Loar, of Holdrege, passed away on Thursday, July 15, 2010 at the Phelps Memorial Health Center at Holdrege. Hazel was born on the family farm, south of Holdrege in Phelps County, a farm that belonged to her Grandfather, Per A. Anderson. She was the daughter of Elmer A. and Blanche E. (Sailing) Anderson. Hazel graduated from Holdrege High School and then graduated from Kearney State College with her teaching credentials. She was a member of Sigma Thea Phi Soriety.

On December 20, 1943 she was united in to Neil E. Loar and to this union two sons were born: James E. and Richard L. Hazel taught in rural schools in Phelps County. Later, she taught in Sidney, Iowa, North Platte, Nebraska, Salt Lake City, Utah, and the Holdrege Public Schools. She was the founder of Special Education in Holdrege, students came to her from all the surrounding towns for her assistance. She was also a private tutor for many students in area. Hazel found great joy in the accomplishments of her former students and loved keeping in touch about their achievements.

One of Hazel's hobbies was collecting antiques, which later became known as Loar's Antiques. Many friendship bonds were formed throughout the years in every state in regards to her love of antiques. On December 21, 1992, she was preceded in death by her husband, Neil.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, where she was active with the Mary Circle, also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and member of the Central Nebraska Antiques Association.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; son, James E. Loar; grandson, Jamie Loar; and sister, Evelyn Mennenga and her husband, Lloyd.

Hazel leaves to mourn her passing her son, Richard Loar of Holdrege; grandchildren: Roberto, Maurice, Jeanette, Vanessa, and Crystal; several great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Barbara J. Loar of Surf Side Beach, South Carolina; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held on Monday, July 19, 2010 from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Holdrege.

A memorial has been established in her memory and will be designated at a later date.
