Celebration of Life Service for Hazel E. Peterson will be conducted on Monday, May 23, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Oxford, Nebraska with Reverend Eldon E. Fablinger officiating. Interment will be held at the Orleans Cemetery prior to the services.
Hazel Eulallia Peterson, 98 years of age, of Holdrege, Nebraska (formerly of rural Orleans, Nebraska), passed away on Sunday, May 15, 2016 at the Holdrege Memorial Homes. Hazel was born March 5, 1918 in a sod house near Flagler, Colorado, the eldest of four daughters born to Benjamin Frederick and Margaret Estella (Strohmeyer) Pearson. When Hazel was nine years old, the family moved from Colorado to Nebraska. She received her primary education from District #47 rural school in Harlan County, and then completed her secondary education at Mascot High School, graduating with the class of 1936.
Hazel was united in marriage to Marvin E. Peterson on August 19, 1936 in Norton, Kansas, and to this union four children were born: LaDonna, Gary, Marlys and Rodney. The family made their home in rural Orleans, where Hazel enjoyed life on the farm.
Hazel was a member of the United Methodist Church in Oxford and the United Methodist Women. She was a member of the Extension Club and a 70 year Charter Member of the Carter Cheer Club. Hazel loved to sew and was an expert seamstress, specialized in making baby blankets for grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents and husband, Marvin; Hazel was preceded in death by two sisters: Charlotte Jones and her husband, Jinx and Doris Fish and husband, Paul; sister-in-law, Velma Callaway; and son-in-law, Harry Meeker.
Hazel leaves to celebrate her life: her four children: LaDonna Meeker of Omaha, Nebraska, Gary Peterson and his wife, Susanne of Orleans, Nebraska, Marlys Pedrett and her husband, Terry of Aurora, Colorado, and Rodney Peterson and his wife, Susan of Doniphan, Nebraska; 14 grandchildren: Michelle Johnson and husband Rick, Tasha Kelly, Tori Stofferson and husband, Robert, Kali Turgeon and husband, Jeff, Kyle Peterson and wife, Carrie, Kevin Peterson and wife, Sarah, Kenton Peterson and wife, Erin, Kecia Pedrett Leland and husband, Mike, Treg Pedrett and Lace Lauridsen, Tia Pedrett and husband, Tyler Depew, Taryn Pedrett and husband, Chris Lammering, Amy Messersmith and husband, Matt, Sara Loman and husband, Mark and Carrie Kavan and husband, Quentin; 34 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; sister, Alda Blincow and her husband, Bill of Oxford; along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 22, 2016 from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 1:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. at the Mitchell-Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Oxford.
A memorial has been established in Hazel's honor and will be designated at a later date.
