Graveside Services and Interment for Hazel M. Sitlington will be conducted from the Robb Cemetery, southeast of Lexington in Gosper County, Nebraska on Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. with the Reverend Dr. W. Kirwin Stewart, Jr., officiating.

Hazel Mae Sitlington, 96 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Friday, April 15, 2011 at the Holdrege Memorial Homes. Hazel was born February 18, 1915 on a farm southeast of Lexington, the daughter of Stephen and Nellie (Ruby) Cole. She graduated from Lexington High School and then pursued higher education at the Kearney State College, and then the Metropolitan Business School in Los Angeles specializing in IBM.

On June 12, 1948 she was united in marriage to Paul N. Sitlington, Jr. of Kansas City, Missouri, they were married in Los Angeles, where they resided until October of 1954, when they moved to Holdrege. Hazel was employed by Lockheed Aircraft Corporation and Richfield Oil Company in the IBM installations before and during WW II. After the war, she worked at the Southern California Gas Company in the accounting department. After moving to Holdrege, Hazel worked at Central Nebraska Public Power and Irrigation District in the accounting department until her retirement.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, where she was active with the Presbyterian Women's Association. She was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star - Concordia Chapter #97, where she served as secretary for 24 years and was also worthy matron, with her husband, Paul as worthy patron in 1970. Hazel was also a member of the Laura Cooper Past Matrons. Other organizations in which she was a member and served as an officer were the Martin Horn American Legion Post #66 Auxiliary, the Hard Times Club, and a lifetime member of the Phelps County Hospital Auxiliary. She also belonged to the Holdrege Federated Woman's Club and was president of the Inter-County Federation and served as secretary of the District Federation.

Hazel traveled extensively to many countries on most continents of the world and as a hobby took slides, which she shared with various organizations and residents of Holdrege Memorial Homes and Christian Homes. Other hobbies were reading, photography, tending to her flower garden and collectables from the places she visited.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul; and a brother, Elbert Cole. She leaves to mourn her passing a host of special friends.

Visitation will be held at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege on Tuesday, April 19, 2011 from 1:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. with Order of Eastern Star Rite at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

A memorial has been
established in her memory and will be designated at a later date.
