Celebration of Life Service for Helen M. Golumbeski will be held on Monday, December 16, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at the Trinity Evangelical Free Church with Pastor Paul Bauman and Chaplain DeWane Dow officiating. Interment will be held in the Orleans Cemetery at Orleans, Nebraska following the services.
Helen Margaret Golumbeski, 91 years of age, of Minden, Nebraska, (formerly of Orleans) passed away on Sunday, December 8, 2019 at the Kearney County Health Services in Minden. Helen was born December 28, 1927, in New Market, New Jersey, the second of six children to John and Veronica (Minarik) Bereheiko. When she was 6 years old, her father John, fell into icy water while at work and later died. Her mother then married Harry Perogoff. She received her primary education from New Market School, and then graduated from Metuchen High School with the class of 1945.
Following her education, Helen was employed in a print shop called, Art Color in Dunellen, New Jersey. On November 23, 1955, she was united in marriage to Anthony J. Golumbeski, Jr. in Newark, New Jersey. To this union a son, Anthony Joseph, III who passed away shortly after birth; and a daughter, Donna Helen was born. They resided in Newark, where Tony was employed by Bell Telephone and Radio, and Helen focused her efforts providing for the needs of her family. The family later resided in Plainfield, Clinton, and Three Bridges, New Jersey. They then relocated to Cashmere, Washington in 1964. They later moved to Veradale, Washington, and then to Airway Heights, Washington. During their years in Washington, the family did a lot of hunting and fishing.
In 1971, Tony was called by the Lord to full-time ministry. The couple attended Bible College at Pambrun, Saskatchewan, Canada. Helen enjoyed devoting her life to being a minister's wife, assisted with clerical work, and loved supporting their ministry as they moved to several locations to serve the Lord. They moved to Mountain Top, Pennsylvania, to be near their aging parents. They served several churches in the area for the next fifteen years. During this time, Helen cleaned homes for several area families. In 1989, the couple moved to Gothenburg, Nebraska, where they served the New Hope Evangelical Free Church. In 1993, they moved to Lynch, Nebraska, where they served the Wesleyan Methodist Church. They then moved to Berwyn, Nebraska in 1995, and to Orleans in 1997. The couple attended the Alma Evangelical Free Church, and then the Prayer Baptist Church in Orleans. On March 23, 2011, she was preceded in death by her husband, Tony. Helen then moved to Funk, Nebraska for a few years to be with her family. She then resided at Sunrise View in Holdrege for a couple of years, prior to making her home at Bethany Home in Minden, where she was well liked and received loving care.
Helen loved to be in the kitchen, and was known for her famous huckleberry pie and pierogies. She enjoyed sewing and doing word finds in her spare time. She was a member of the Prayer Baptist Church in Orleans, and attended the Trinity Evangelical Free Church in later years. During their years in ministry, Helen enjoyed participating in Bible Studies, teaching Sunday school and Vacation Bible School, especially to the younger children. While in Holdrege, she was active with the White Cross at Trinity and enjoyed spending time with residents at Christian Homes Care Community.
Besides her husband, Tony; and son, Anthony Joseph III; Helen was preceded in death by her parents and step-father; three brothers: John Bereheiko and his wife, Patricia; Stephen Bereheiko; and Michael Bereheiko; three brothers-in-law: William Cooper; George Golumbeski and his wife, Doris; and Frank Golumbeski.
Helen leaves to celebrate her life; her daughter, Donna Ehrenberg and her husband, Wayne of Funk, Nebraska; four grandchildren: Angela Ehrenberg-Wood and her husband, Jason of Omaha, Nebraska; SSgt. Celeste Kennedy and her husband, M/Sgt. Andrew Kennedy of Navarre, Florida; SSgt Daniel Ehrenberg of Lynchburg, Virginia; and Aubrie Petts and her husband, Andrew of Omaha; two sisters: Veronica Cooper of Somerset, New Jersey; and Marion Gahrmann and her husband, Edward of East Brunswick, New Jersey; sisters-in-law: Penny Bereheiko of Tampa, Florida; and Constance Golumbeski of Larksville, Pennsylvania; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 15, 2019 from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 1:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege.
A memorial has been established in Helen's honor, and kindly suggested the family for later designation.
