Funeral Services for Helen E. Johnson will be conducted from the Christian Homes Chapel at Holdrege, Nebraska on Friday, March 30, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Glenn Frecks, officiating. Interment will be in the Prairie Home Cemetery at Holdrege.
Helen Elizabeth Johnson, 95 years of age, of rural Loomis, Nebraska, passed away on Tuesday, March 27, 2007 at the Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege. Helen was born March 29, 1911, on the family farm near Rock Falls in Phelps County, Nebraska, the eldest of three children of Carl and Martha (Luckhardt) Schreiter. She received her education at Rock Falls.
Following her education, Helen was united in marriage to George Ernest Johnson on December 28, 1930 and they made their home in the Rock Falls Township, where the couple engaged in farming. To this union two children were born: Darlene and Ernest. In 1937 they moved to the Union Township southwest of Loomis, Nebraska, where they continued to farm and Helen worked side-by-side with George. On October 13, 1992 she was preceded in death by her husband, George. Helen continued to be active on the farm, tending to her garden until her health failed. In November of 2005 due to health concerns she became a resident of the Christian Homes in Holdrege.
Helen enjoyed baking, had a special place in her heart for animals, especially her kittens and loved spending time with her family.
She leaves to mourn her passing her daughter, Darlene Fetters and her husband, Floyd of Loomis, Nebraska; son, Ernest Johnson and his wife, Phyllis of Bertrand, Nebraska; eight grandchildren: J.P. Johnson, Catherine Johnson, Bob Fetters, Rod Fetters and his wife, Deannah, Randy Fetters, Rich Fetters and his wife, Virginia, Mary Lambrecht and her husband, Lanny and Roger Fetters; eleven great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers: Carl and Phil Schreiter and grandson, Shan Fetters.
Mrs. Johnson will lie in state at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege on Thursday, March 29, 2007 from 1:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 7:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
A memorial has been established in her memory.
