Helen Rhoades

A funeral service for Helen M. (Beck) Rhoades will be held on Wednesday, May 1, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at New Wine Fellowship Church in Orleans, Nebraska with Pastor Lana Dake officiating.  Interment will follow at the Orleans Cemetery.

Helen Marie (Beck) Rhoades, 83 years of age, of Orleans, Nebraska, passed away on Friday, April 26, 2024 at Harlan County Health System. Helen was born in Orleans on January 31, 1941, to Henry and Lena (Adams) Beck. She received her education at Orleans Public Schools.

Helen married Dwight "Sonny" Rhoades on March 18, 1958, after sneaking to Kansas to get married because she was too young to get married in Nebraska.  To this union three children were born: Teresa Weak, Daniel Rhoades, and Dennis Rhoades. The family made their home in Orleans, where Helen worked over 30 years at Becton Dickinson in Holdreg,e until her retirement. She made a lifetime of friends while working at Becton Dickinson.

Helen enjoyed feeding and loving her family and anyone else who came to their home. She enjoyed word puzzles, watching game shows, and her ultimate joys were grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-granddaughter.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Dwight "Sonny" Rhoades; her parents, Henry and Lena Beck; brothers: Charles, Clarence (Bud), John, Kenneth, Dean, Donald and Ronnie; two sisters: Phyllis and Joetta; and many of their friends.

Helen leaves to celebrate her life, her children: Teresa and her husband Steve Weak; Daniel Rhoades; and Dennis Rhoades, all of Orleans; grandchildren: Angela Craig and husband Curtis of Phillipsburg, Kansas; Tracy Weak and wife Natashia of Orleans; Rachel Dallmann and her husband Joey of Elm Creek, Nebraska; and Lucas Rhoades of Kearney; great-grandchildren:  Cory Philby and wife Liz; Kayla Philby and fiancé Dylan; Kane Craig; Josh Craig and wife Tara; Ty Craig and wife Michelle; Trenton Weak; Tyler Weak; Taylor Weak; Kynadi Dallmann; and Revyn Dallmann; and one great-great-granddaughter, Stella Philby; along with extended family memebers.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 30, 2024 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Bauer-Torrey & Mach Funeral Home in Alma, with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

A memorial has been established in Helen's honor, and kindly suggested to the family for future designation.
