Funeral Services for Hildur M. Gardine will be conducted from the Adullam Lutheran Church north of Bertrand, Nebraska on Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Kenton Birtell and Vicar Dan Wiese officiating. Interment will be in the Adullam Lutheran Cemetery in rural Phelps County.
Hildur Margaret Erentina Gardine, 94 years of age of Holdrege, Nebraska (formerly of Bertrand, Nebraska) passed away on Thursday, November 6, 2014 at the Christian Homes Care Community in Holdrege. Hildur was born January 15, 1920 at her parent's farm, northeast of Bertrand, the second child born to Edwin and Nellie (Broison) Hanson. She was baptized at her home on February 13, 1920 and was confirmed on May 20, 1934. Her confirmation song was "In The Hour of Trial." Hildur was a lifelong member of the Adullam Lutheran Church, where she served as the Sunday School Superintendent, taught Sunday school and played the piano for many years. She received her primary education at Ash Grove Rural School in Phelps County and then graduated from Bertrand High School on May 20, 1938. Hildur then pursued her Normal Training to receive her teaching credentials and taught at District #76, Sunny Hill, and Funk Schools.
On February 27, 1944, Hildur was united in marriage to Roy L. Gardine at Adullum Lutheran Church and to this union one daughter, Helen was born. The family lived on a farm north of Holdrege and later moved to the family farm north of Bertrand in 1949. On March 11, 1997 she was preceded in death by her husband, Roy. When her health began to fail, she lived with Helen and Darold for several years in Holdrege. In October of 2013, she began to make her home at the Christian Homes Care Community, where she made many new friends with the residents and the staff took very special care of her.
Hildur sold Avon for 45 years. When her health was better, she enjoyed getting out and visiting with her customers. She also spent a lot of time crocheting, and loved making Afghans, tending to her flower gardens, and faithfully attended the Bertrand Rodeo throughout her entire life.
She liked to help fix the meals during harvest for the guys in the field. Hildur also enjoyed playing the piano and listening to her great-grandchildren practice their piano lessons. Hildur was a longtime member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Bertrand.
Besides her husband and parents; Hildur was preceded in death by her sister, Signe in infancy; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Harry Gardine, Earl and Viola Gardine, Ruby and Bill Richardson, Ruth Dodson and two sisters-in-law that died in infancy.
She leaves to mourn her passing; her daughter, Helen Tagge and her husband, Darold of Holdrege; grandchildren: Lisa Ziebarth and her husband, James of Wilcox, Nebraska and Todd Stubbendieck and his wife, Leslie of Arlington, Virginia; great-grandchildren: Tyler Ziebarth and his wife, Shanna of Wilcox, Jillian Ziebarth of Holdrege, Katelyn and Alec Ziebarth of Wilcox, Cash and Truman Stubbendieck of Arlington; great-great grandchildren: Jackson, Ella and Greyson of Wilcox; brother-in-law, Albert Gardine of Arvada, Colorado; sisters-in-law: Phyllis Maaske of Betrand, and Delores Schneider and her husband, Leland of Funk, Nebraska; and a host of other relatives and friends and her beloved dog, Georgie.
Visitation will be held on Monday, November 10, 2014 at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege from 1:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
A memorial has been established in Hildur's honor and will be designated at a later date.
