Funeral Services for Pauline Major will be conducted from the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege, Nebraska on Friday, September 12, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. with Ronald Thomke and Darla Fisher, officiating. Interment will be in the Moses Hill Cemetery in Phelps County.
Ida Pauline Major, 97 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Monday, September 8, 2008 at the Holdrege Memorial Homes. Pauline was born November 8, 1910 at Holdrege, the eldest of four children of Oley Andrew and Emily Mathilda (Bragg) Hendricks. Pauline received her education at Holdrege, graduating from Holdrege High School with the class of 1928. She then pursued higher education at the Kearney Normal School to receive her teaching credentials. Pauline taught for five years in Sioux County and Phelps County.
On November 22, 1947, Pauline was united in marriage to Leslie Major. Throughout her life, she made her home in Lincoln, Nebraska, Evanston, Illinois, Beverly Hills, California and Holdrege. Pauline's main focus in life was caring for her family. During her working years, Pauline also assisted many families with domestic duties and worked as a Nurses Aid at the Christian Homes in Holdrege. In March of 1968 her husband, Leslie, preceded her in death.
Pauline was an avid reader, especially topics that concerned health. She also enjoyed tending to her flowers, plants, loved to cook and thoroughly loved listening to traditional music from the hymnal.
She leaves to mourn her passing her sister, Violet Spiker of Lincoln; two step-sons: Harold Major of Safford, Arizona and Wayne Major Sr. of Riverton, Wyoming; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Ardell L. "Oley" Hendricks and one sister, Irene Gustafson.
Pauline will lie in state at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege on Thursday, September 11, 2008 from 1:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
A memorial has been established in her memory and kindly suggested to the Holdrege Memorial Homes – Chapel Fund.
