Graveside Services for Ida F. Portenier will be held on Tuesday, November 22, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in northern Phillips County, Kansas with Pastor Paul Ferrarone officiating.
Ida Fern Portenier, 102 years of age, of LaPorte, Texas, formerly of Alma, Nebraska, passed away on Wednesday, November 16, 2016 at the San Jacinto Manor in Deer Park, Texas. Ida was born on May 2, 1914, in Phelps County, Nebraska to John and Lillie Berle (Frost) Dale and attended primary school through the 8 th grade.
On March 11, 1933, she was united in marriage to Theodore William "Ted" Portenier at the home of Pastor Lem Elrod, south of Republican City, Nebraska and to this union 2 sons were born: Warren Robert and Doren William. The family made their home north of Gretna, Kansas until moving into Gretna, where they owned and operated a Grocery Store. In 1938, the family relocated to Phillips County, Kansas where they resided until moving into Alma in 1990. Ted preceded her in death on March 17, 1992. In November of 2010, Ida relocated to LaPorte to be near her son Warren and his family.
Ida enjoyed cooking and sightseeing, but most of all, she loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a devoted member of Free Methodist Church in Alma for many years and in recent years, attended Lomax Baptist Church while living in LaPorte.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Doren Portenier; grandson, Tedrick Portenier; and numerous brothers and sisters-in-laws.
Ida leaves to celebrate her life; her son, Warren Portenier and his wife, Patsy of LaPorte; 13 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; brother, John Dale of Phillipsburg, Kansas; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
There will be no visitation.
A memorial has been established in Ida's honor and kindly suggest to the Alma Free Methodist Church, 312 5th Street, Alma, NE 68920.
