Ila Mae Schelling

Funeral Services for Ila Mae Schelling will be held on Wednesday, August 21, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Oxford, Nebraska with Neal McInturf officiating.  Burial will follow at the Oxford Cemetery.

Ila Mae Schelling, 89 years of age, of Oxford, passed away on Friday, August 16, 2019 at CHI Health Good Samaritan in Kearney, Nebraska.  Ila Mae was born March 17, 1930, at the family farm in rural Long Island, Kansas, to Guy and Nellie (Colby) Hardy.  Ila Mae attended school in Long Island and graduated with the class of 1948.

On August 17, 1951, Ila Mae was united in marriage to Perry D. Schelling at their home in Long Island. While Perry was in the service, Ila Mae lived in Orleans, Nebraska working at the café as a waitress.

The couple moved to Oxford in November 1954, and God blessed this union with three sons:  Dallas, Douglas and Donald. Ila Mae was then employed at Walker Post Nursing Home for 16 years.

She enjoyed: helping at the Oxford Thrift Store, walking, reading, embroidery, caring for her house plants, flowers, and later puzzle books.  Ila Mae was often found visiting her friends and older people as well as babysitting for a neighbor.  She was so happy when her family was all together.

Ila Mae was a member of the Oxford First Baptist Church, where she enjoyed bible study, social clubs and helping with luncheons.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband, Perry Schelling on April 18, 1996; three brothers: Marvin Hardy, Loren Hardy, and Harold Hardy; one sister, Marjorie Hardy; her in-laws; Henry and his wife Betsy Schelling, and Hank Schelling; niece Linda Fitzgerald; and nephew Ronnie Hardy.

Ila Mae leaves to celebrate her life: her sons: Dallas Schelling of Oxford; Douglas Schelling and his wife, Tess, of Holyoke, Colorado; and Donald Schelling and his wife, Kirstin of Haxtun, Colorado; five grandchildren: Colby Schelling and his wife Brittany, Kaiden Schelling, Kelsie Schelling, Marissa Schelling, and Ciera Schelling; one great-grandson: Penn Schelling; sisters-in-law: Peggy Schelling, Clarca Fitzgerald and her husband Eddy; along with extended family and many friends.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 20, 2019, from 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at the Mitchell-Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Oxford with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.

A memorial has been established in Ila Mae's honor and kindly suggested to the family for later designation.
