Mass of Christian Burial for Imelda E. Hoelting will be held on Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Hastings, Nebraska with Fathers Dave Oldham and Jeremy Huzuka and Monsignor Paul Witt as concelebrants. Rosary will be recited prior to the mass at 1:00 p.m. at the church. Interment will follow at the Parkview Cemetery at Hastings.
Imelda E. "Imy" Hoelting, 85 years of age, of Oxford, Nebraska, passed away on Friday, January 11, 2019 at Holdrege Memorial Homes in Holdrege, Nebraska. Imy was born January 24, 1933 near Lawrence, Nebraska, the fourth of seven children born to Anthony "Tony" and Margaret (Heinz) Schommer. Imy received her primary education from Lawrence Public Schools, later attending Lawrence High School, graduating with the class of 1950.
Following her education, she pursued higher education from Kearney State College, obtaining a Teaching Certificate. Imy taught in Country Schools and on June 23, 1954, she was united in marriage to Leonard Hoelting in Lawrence. Imy spent countless hours at the Insurance Office, while Leonard was in the service, stationed in Georgia. Their union was blessed with three children: Carl, Joyce, and Cory. The family made their home in Oxford, where Imy taught and worked as the Librarian and Media Specialist for a total of 24 years. The family also owned and operated the Hoelting Package Store in Oxford for 28 years.
Imy enjoyed reading, bowling, playing cards, volunteering and collecting: cardinals, angels and Precious Moments figurines. Imy was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Oxford, the Oxford American Legion Auxiliary, the Birthday Club, and the Silverheads Card Club; and she also devoted many hours to being a 4-H Leader, CCD teacher and working on the Election Board.
Imy was preceded in death by; her parents; three brothers: Sylvester "Joe" Schommer; Jerry Schommer; and Oscar Schommer; one sister, Bernice (Clarence) Reinsch; and eleven brothers-in-law: Frank Gilmore; Dan (Alma) Hoelting; Roy (Irene) Hoelting; Art Hoelting; Vernon Hoelting; Fritz (Anne) Hoelting; Richard Hoelting; Eldon Hoelting; Victor Hoelting; Edgar Buescher; and an infant brother-in-law; one sister-in-law, Eva (Nub) Krebsbach.
She leaves to mourn her death; her husband, Leonard Hoelting of Oxford; her children: Carl Hoelting and his wife, Martie of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; Joyce Sprecher and her husband, Keith of Corsica, South Dakota; and Cory Hoelting of Houston, Texas; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters: Wilma Gilmore of Monterey Park, California; and Sharon Oldham and her husband, Robert "Bob" of Hastings; seven sisters-in-law: Jane Schommer of Lincoln, Nebraska; Betty Schommer of Hardington, Nebraska; Eileen Buescher of Hastings; Marie Choquette and her husband, Adrian of Minden, Nebraska; Doris Hoelting of Lawrence; Jolene Hoelting of Kearney, Nebraska; and Kay Hoelting of Bellevue, Nebraska; along with several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 15, 2019 from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at the Mitchell-Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Oxford.
A memorial has been established in Imy's honor and kindly suggested to: the Oxford Library; or the Oxford Community Fund Drive.
