Irene Catherine Carr, 80 years of age, of Wilcox, passed away on Sunday, November 27, 2016 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on July 5, 1936, in Poole, Nebraska to Henry "Bud" and Rose (Loeffelholz) Schmitz. She was baptized on July 19, 1936 and was confirmed on December 19, 1953 in the St. Mary's Catholic Church near Pleasanton, Nebraska. Irene received her education in rural schools in Buffalo County, Nebraska.

On December 28, 1953, she was united in marriage to Glenn Dale Carr at the St. James Catholic Church in Kearney, Nebraska and to this union five children were born: Glenda Louise, Daniel Dean, Eugene Meirill, Russell Henry and Randal Joseph. The family made their home in Kearney, where Irene focused her efforts at home with the children. In 1956, the family moved to Aurora, Nebraska and then in January of 1970, they began to make their home in Wilcox. In 1972, Glenn and Irene moved their house from the country into town and it's where Irene resided the rest of her life. Irene worked at Becton Dickinson for over 20 years until her retirement in 1992. Glenn preceded her in death in July of 2009.

Irene and Glenn loved to camp and travel and enjoyed having family and friends join them. Irene also enjoyed cooking many meals while camping and sitting around the bonfire. With their travels, she made many strangers her friends and they continued their friendships even after their travels. Irene also enjoyed reading and was very well-known for her garden. Irene was a huge supporter of the Tri-City Storm Hockey Team. When she wasn't at the games watching, she was at home listening and keeping track of all the game stats. Family was most important to her and she treasured Sunday family dinners, campouts, and phone calls, but most of all, she loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was a devoted member of the "Eagle Rolling Camping Club" in Grand Island, Nebraska.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Irene leaves to celebrate her life; her children: Glenda Parker and her husband, Neal of Johnson Lake, Nebraska, Daniel Carr, Russ Carr, Randy Carr and his wife, Tracy all of Wilcox and Gene Carr of Kearney; 9 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sisters: Rosella Whitcher and her husband, Jean of Ft.
