Ivan L Poling

A memorial service for Ivan Poling will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at the New Life Church in Holdrege, Nebraska, with Pastor Jim Garfield and Pastor Russell Henderson officiating.  A private inurnment will be held at a future time.

Ivan Loyd Poling, 76, of Holdrege, passed away on Tuesday, January 14, 2025 following a brief illness at CHI Health Good Samaritan in Kearney, Nebraska, with his loving wife by his side.  Ivan was born on July 27, 1948 in Norton, Kansas, the youngest of four children born to Floyd and Iva (Jurey) Poling.

He received his education from Norcatur Public Schools, graduating from Norcatur High School with the class of 1966. Following his education, he took auto body classes at Goodland, Kansas.

On October 19, 1968, he was united in marriage to Joann Bowyer at Norton and to this union, they were blessed with two children: Ginger and Jeffrey. The family made their home in Beaver City, Nebraska and later moved to Holdrege, where Ivan worked as a salesman for various businesses.

Ivan was baptized at North Park Assembly of God Church and was a member for many years. He was active in teaching Sunday school, children's church, and helping with Royal Rangers. He was also active with the Boy Scouts for many years.

He enjoyed working in his yard, gardening, car races, going on vacations with his family and spending time with his family and friends playing games. Ivan was known to be ornery at times, quick witted, and always had a joke prepared, even up to his last days.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Iva Poling; his in-laws, Lawrence and Myrtle Bowyer; his siblings: Myrna Poling; Clinton Poling; and Carolyn Zimmerman; and a nephew, Brian Loughry.

Ivan leaves to celebrate his life, his loving wife of 56 years, Joann Poling of Holdrege; his son, Jeffrey Poling of Holdrege; his daughter, Ginger Linder and her husband, Scott of Holdrege; grandson, Mitchell Linder and his fiancé, Stephanie Burch of Hastings, Nebraska; sister-in-law, Roseann Bowyer Van Stell of North Platte, Nebraska; along with a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

There will be no viewing or visitation. The family is honoring his wish for cremation.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Ivan's honor are suggested to the family for later designation.
