Celebration of Life Services for Ivan D. Stone will be held on Tuesday, July 30, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege, Nebraska with Pastor Murray Jones officiating.  Interment will be held in the Prairie Home Cemetery at Holdrege with military honors provided by the Martin Horn American Legion Post #66 in conjunction with the United States Navy Funeral Honors Team.

Ivan Daniel Stone, 71 years of age, of Axtell, Nebraska, passed away on Thursday, July 25, 2019 at the Kearney Regional Medical Center in Kearney, Nebraska.  Ivan was born December 1, 1947 at Ft. Morgan, Colorado, the son of Delbert and Pearl (Prettyman) Stone.  He received his primary education in several communities throughout Nebraska and Kansas, until settling to Bradshaw, Nebraska, where he graduated from Bradshaw High School with the class of 1967.

On February 23, 1968, Ivan was inducted into the United States Navy, and served his country aboard the U.S.S. Enterprise during the Vietnam War until his honorable discharge on February 12, 1972.  Ivan was decorated with several medals and commendations that included:  National Defense Medal; Vietnam Service and Campaign Medals; Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal; and the Navy Unit Commendation Medal.

Following his service, he returned home to Beaver City, Nebraska, where Ivan was employed as a hired man for his cousin, LeRoy Dixon of Hendley, Nebraska.  On April 20, 1974, Ivan was united in marriage to Marsha Ann Storz in Oxford, Nebraska, and to this union they were blessed with three sons:  Jason, Jeremy, and Timothy.  The couple made their home at Holdrege, until moving north of Funk, Nebraska in 1976.  In 1996, they moved to Axtell, where they continued to raise their children.  Throughout the years, Ivan was employed as an Electrician for Holdrege Electric and then Anderson Brothers Plumbing and Electric until his retirement.

Ivan enjoyed the outdoors; fishing and deer hunting.  His favorite past-times were watching his favorite Westerns, and wrestling on the TV.  In addition, many friendship bonds were also formed throughout the years playing poker.

Besides his parents; Ivan was preceded in death by one son, Jason Stone; and four brothers:  John, Dennis, Gayle, and Kenny Stone.

Ivan leaves to celebrate his life; his wife of 45 years, Marsha Stone of Axtell; two sons:  Jeremy Stone of Axtell; and Timothy Stone and his wife, Whitney of Hastings, Nebraska; two grandchildren:  Joshua and Aniah Stone; step-mother, Shirley Stone of Fremont, Nebraska; six sisters:  Verna Byerly and her husband, Joy of Great Bend, Kansas; Sharon James and her husband, Mel of Axtell; Donna Price of Cocoa, Florida; Diane Peacock and her husband, Wendell of Ada, Kansas; Pam Holman and her husband, Joe of Indianapolis, Indiana; and Mary Lou Atkisson of Norton, Kansas; one brother, Carl Stone and his wife, Renee of Lady Lake, Florida; sister-in-law, Renita (Stone) Fisher of Kearney; and a host of brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law on the Storz side of the family; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held on Monday, July 29, 2019 from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege.

A memorial has been established in Ivan's honor, and kindly suggested to the family for later designation.
