Celebration of Life Services for Jack Ford will he held on Thursday, April 30, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege, Nebraska with Mr. Wayne Carlson officiating. Interment will be held in the Highland Cemetery at Bertrand, Nebraska following the services with military honors provided by the Bertrand Veterans Organization in conjunction with the United States Army Military Honor Guard.
Jack Ford, 89 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, April 26, 2015 at his home in Holdrege. Jack was born August 10, 1925 at Lincoln, Nebraska, the eldest of two sons born to Ralph W. and Oakle (Cochran) Ford. Jack received his education from Loomis Public Schools, graduating with the class of 1943.
Following his education, Jack served his country during WW II in the United States Army from April of 1945 until his honorable discharge. He then returned home to Gosper County to the family farm. On March 30, 1950 he was united in marriage to Barbara Lea Detenbeck and to this union two children were born: Linda and Steven. The family made their home on a farm north of Bertrand, where Jack engaged in farming until 1965 at which time they moved to the Holdrege area. Jack then began a long career with Agri CO-OP in Holdrege driving a feed truck until his retirement in 2005. On May 22, 2005 he was preceded in death by his wife, Barb.
During his lifetime, Jack loved working with horses; he especially enjoyed attending many draft horse shows through the years with his wife, Barb. In his younger years, Jack enjoyed fishing and camping. He was a long-time member of the Bethel Lutheran Church in Holdrege.
Besides his wife, Barb and his parents; Jack was preceded in death by one brother, Richard "Dick" Ford; brothers-in-law: Archie Detenbeck and his wife, Mona and Keith Detenbeck; sisters-in-law: Beulah Dawson and her husband, George, Doris Biesiecker and her husband, LeRoy and Phyllis Tucker.
Jack leaves to mourn his passing; his two children: Linda Dilley and her husband, Merlin of Harvard, Nebraska and Steve Ford and his wife, Sherry of Wilson, Kansas; four grandchildren: Jeff Pollan of Hanover, Kansas, Stacy Cole and her husband, Jeff of Overland Park, Kansas, Sasha Ford of Great Bend, Kansas, and Steven J. Ford of Abilene, Kansas; step-grandson, Bo Dilley of Harvard; two great-grandchildren: Kristin Kruse and husband, Dusty and Alic Pollan; sisters-in-law: Shirley Ford of Bertrand and Dorothy Detenbeck of Lincoln; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 29, 2015 from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege.
A memorial has been established in Jack's honor and kindly suggested to the Christian Homes Care Community.
