Celebration of life service for Jacquelyn (Jackie) Donoghue will be held on Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at the Trinity Evangelical Free Church in Holdrege, Nebraska with Pastor Murray Jones officiating.

Jacquelyn (Jackie) Lee Donoghue, age 74, of Holdrege, passed away at her home on Friday, January 6, 2017.  Jackie was born December 15, 1942 in Grand Island, Nebraska to W. Jack and Dorathy (Lucke) Smith. She and her mother moved to Nebraska City in 1957 and Jackie graduated valedictorian from Nebraska City High School in 1960.  She earned her nursing degree from Lincoln General Hospital School of Nursing in 1963 and worked in both hospital and nursing home settings throughout her nursing career.

On December 7, 1963, Jackie was united in marriage to John (Jack) Donoghue.  The couple eventually settled in Holdrege in 1969, where they raised their three daughters.  After the girls left home, Jackie and Jack remained in Holdrege until his death in 2009.  Jackie lived with her daughter's family in Falls City, Nebraska and then Lincoln, Nebraska for some time before moving back to Holdrege.

During their 46 years of marriage, Jackie and her husband, Jack, enjoyed traveling, playing cards, and spending time with family and friends.  They were members of the Bethel Lutheran Church and both volunteered with TeamMates.  After Jack's death, Jackie continued as a mentor and also served as a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate).  She had a tremendous heart for others and always wanted to help whenever she could.  Jackie later began attending Trinity Evangelical Free Church where she enjoyed volunteering in the nursery.

Besides her husband and parents, Jackie was preceded in death by a grandson.

She leaves to celebrate her life her three daughters, Janice Donoghue of Omaha, Nebraska; Julia Kercher and husband, Robert, of Lincoln, Nebraska; and Jill Morgan and husband, Tim, of Nebraska City, Nebraska; seven grandchildren, and many, many friends.

There will be no visitation. The family is honoring her wish for cremation.

A memorial has been established in Jackie's honor and kindly suggested to Royal Family Kids' Camp.
