Celebration of Life Services for James B. "Jim" Christensen, Sr., will be held on Monday, December 18, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Grace Fellowship at 4305 19 th Street, Kearney, Nebraska with Pastor Mitch Ivey officiating. Following the Celebration of Life, cremation will take place and an inurnment will be held at the Prairie Home Cemetery at Holdrege, Nebraska, at a later date with military honors.
James Bruce Christensen, Sr., 68 years of age, of Elm Creek, Nebraska, passed away on Thursday, December 14, 2017 at CHI Health Good Samaritan in Kearney. Jim was born March 13, 1949, at Holdrege, the third of four children born to Clarence and Hildur (Bayer) Christensen. He received his education from Holdrege Public Schools, graduating Holdrege High School with the class of 1967. He later pursued higher education at Hastings Community College.
Jim served in the United States Marine Corps from April 1968 until 1972, when he was honorably discharged.
On February 29, 1968, he was united in marriage to Charlotte McClain in Kearney and to this union, they were blessed with two sons: Jim, Jr. and David. The family made their home in Holdrege, where Jim worked at Christensen Construction. The family later made their home in Elm Creek, were Jim worked as the Maintenance Manager at the YRTC in Kearney. He retired after 27 years of service.
Jim enjoyed playing music, especially with his sons, in their band, Sidewinder, singing and fishing. He was a past member of American Legion of Kearney.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; three grandchildren: Shelby, Brandon and David, Jr.; father-in-law and mother-in-law; brother-in-law, Vernal McClain in infancy; and sisters-in-law, Sharon Kay Johnson and Valyrea Towne.
Jim leaves to celebrate his life; his wife, Charlotte of Elm Creek; sons: Jim Christensen, Jr. and his wife, Tracey, and David Christensen and his wife, Katrina, all of Omaha, Nebraska; six grandchildren: Laura and Abby Christensen, and Andrew, Ethan, Alex and Taryn Christensen; three sisters: Reverend Sylvia Landers of Norfolk, Nebraska, Carol Asche and her husband, Dale of Republican City, Nebraska and Linda Christensen of Omaha; sisters-in-law, Jo Ina Slaughter and her husband, Gary of Lyons, Nebraska and Reatha Lieb of Franklin, Nebraska; brothers-in-law: Louis McClain, Jr. and his wife, Monica of Lincoln, Nebraska, Doug McClain of Wilcox, Nebraska and Steve McClain and his wife, Helen of Holdrege; step-mother-in-law, Janet McClain of Lincoln; along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 17, 2017 from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 1:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege.
A memorial has been established in Jim's honor, and will be designated at a later date.
