Mass of Christian Burial for James P. Dunlay will be conducted from the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Orleans, Nebraska on Friday, September 17, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. with Father Harlan Waskowiak and Msgr. Mark Huber, officiating. Private family burial will be in Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery at Orleans at a later date.
James Patrick Dunlay, 74 years of age, of Orleans, passed away on Monday, September 13, 2010 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Nebraska. James was born February 16, 1936 on the family farm northeast of Orleans in Harlan County, Nebraska, the youngest of seven children of John and Nita (Grubb) Dunlay. He graduated from Orleans High School with the class of 1953. James then attended Kearney State College.
On August 21, 1954, he was united in marriage to Frances C. Delimont at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Orleans. To this union three children were born: James R., Cindy and Cheryl. James worked with his father in conservation work and custom harvesting for many years. He was also a lifelong farmer in the Orleans area. The family resided on the farm north of Orleans until 2007 when the couple moved into Orleans.
He was a lifelong member of the St. May's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Orleans Jaycee's, served on Orleans City Council, Orleans School Board and Township Boards.
He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Frances of Orleans; three children: James R. Dunlay and his wife, Linda of Orleans, Cindy Harris and her husband, Steve of Lincoln, Nebraska and Cheryl Weyeneth and her husband, Joe of Danbury, Nebraska; eleven grandchildren: Nathan and John Dunlay, Zach Harris and his wife, Erica and Thad Harris, Jacob Weyeneth and his wife, Sara, Isaac Weyeneth and his wife, Whitney, Seth, Sarah, Benjamin, Thomas and Ambrose Weyeneth; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Ellen Quam and her husband, Sig of Ashland, Nebraska; one brother, Dr. R.W. Dunlay and his wife, Barbara of Iowa Falls, Iowa; four sisters-in-law: Florence Case and her husband, Ivan of Brush, Colorado, Mary Ann Lehmer of Orleans, Marcia Dunlay of Kearney and Gladys Delimont of McCook, Nebraska; brother-in-law, Wayne Delimont of Hutchinson, Kansas ; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Besides his parents, James was preceded in death by his grandson, Andrew Harris; two brothers: Richard and Neil Dunlay; two sisters: Margaret Dunlay and Johanna Delimont; and brother-in-law, Robert Delimont.
Visitation will be held at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Orleans on Thursday, September 16, 2010 from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. with the Rosary held at 7:00 p.m. at the church.
A memorial has been established in his memory and will be designated at a later date.
