James J Grier

Celebration of life service for James J. Grier will be held on Friday, September 11, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege, Nebraska with Pastor Jamie Strickler officiating. A private family inurnment will be held at a later date.

James Jay "Jim" Grier, 63 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Friday, August 28, 2015 at the Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege following a courageous battle with cancer the past eight months. Jim was born January 7, 1952 at Grand Island, Nebraska, the third child born to Richard and Betty (Jones) Grier. Jim grew up in Ogallala, Nebraska, where he received his education and graduated from Ogallala High School with the class of 1970. Following his high school graduation, Jim enlisted in the United States Army, and served his country during the Vietnam War until his honorable discharge. After his service, Jim pursued higher education in Colorado and attended the Boulder College of Business.

In 1979 he was united in marriage to Kathleen Kelly and to this union two children were born: Becky and Justin. The family made their home in Ft. Collins, where Jim began a life-long career in sales.

In the late 90's Jim returned home to Nebraska and resided in Alma, Nebraska to be near family. On September 29, 2000 he was united in marriage to Kristy M. Wheeler. The couple made their home in North Platte, Nebraska for a couple of years until settling to Holdrege. Jim was employed by Cash-Wa Distributing in Kearney as a Sales Representative until his passing.

Jim was an avid fisherman, and also loved camping and boating. Jim enjoyed spending time at Lake McConaughy, where he grew up and many memories were formed throughout the years with family and friends. Most of all he treasured the time spent with his grandchildren.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents: Richard and Betty Grier; step-mother, Carol Grier; step-son, Justin Dorn; and father-in-law, Dale Watermeier.

He leaves to celebrate his life; his wife, Kristy Grier of Holdrege; two children: Becky Frisby and her husband, Jerimiah of Casper, Wyoming and Justin Grier of Ft. Collins, Colorado; one step-son, Joel Wheeler and his wife, Lisa of Alma; step daughter-in-law, Jessica Dorn of Kearney; five grandchildren: Jacob Grier, Olivia Frisby, Caleb and Callen Dorn, and Devyn Wheeler; mother-in-law, Dona Watermeier of Lincoln, Nebraska; three brothers: Bob Grier and his wife, Marlene of Alliance, Nebraska, Gary Grier of Alma, and Rick Grier of Porter, Texas; two sisters-in-law: Kerry Bohlken and her husband, Dennis and Kandy Denker and her husband, Curt all of Lincoln; and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

There will be no visitation, the family is honoring Jim's wish for cremation.

A memorial has been established in Jim's honor and will be designated at a later date.
