Funeral Services for James L. Johnson will be conducted from the First United Methodist Church at Holdrege, Nebraska on Saturday, October 2, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. with the Reverend Dale Lambert, officiating. Interment will be held at the Prairie Home Cemetery at Holdrege.
James Lloyd "Jim" Johnson, 80 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Monday, September 27, 2010 at the Golden Living Center in Franklin, Nebraska. He was born on July 29, 1930 at Holdrege, the fourth of six sons born to Carl P. and Bessie A. (Bell) Johnson. Jim received his education from Holdrege Public Schools, graduating from Holdrege High School with the class of 1947.
On July 29, 1950, he was united in marriage to Elinor June Dunbar of Elwood, Nebraska. The couple was blessed with one son, Gerald James. The family made their home on a farm southwest of Holdrege, where Jim engaged in farming. On August 7, 2009, Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Elinor.
Jim enjoyed playing pool, shuffleboard and enjoyed attending several state tournaments.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Holdrege, and was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles of Holdrege, where he held several offices including president.
Besides his parents and wife, Elinor, Jim was preceded in death by three brothers: Robert R., Kenneth C., and Charles A. Johnson and one sister-in-law, Delores Steinbrink and her husband, Charles.
He leaves to mourn his passing one son, Gerald "Jerry" Johnson of Holdrege; grandson, Eric Johnson and his wife, Amanda of Carter Lake, Iowa; one great-grandson, Zachary Johnson of Grand Island, Nebraska; two brothers: George A. Johnson and his wife, Bonnie of Castle Rock, Colorado and Richard D. Johnson and his wife, Shirley of Holdrege; brother-in-law, Duane Dunbar and his wife, Beth of North Platte, Nebraska; three sisters-in-law: Veneta Johnson of Holdrege, Sally Johnson of Holdrege and Cheera Johnson of Rapid City, South Dakota; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege on Friday, October 1, 2010 from 1:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
A memorial has been established in his memory and kindly suggested to the First United Methodist Church in Holdrege.
