A funeral service for James R. Seyler will be held on Wednesday, July 20, 2022, at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Alma, Nebraska with Pastor Seong Lee officiating. Interment will follow at the Alma Cemetery in Alma, Nebraska.

James Robert "Jim" Seyler, 84 years of age, of Alma, passed away, on July 16, 2022, at the Good Samaritan Society - Colonial Villa in Alma. Jim was born in Holdrege, Nebraska on March 8, 1938, the youngest of three children, born to Paul and Elizabeth (Everson) Seyler. He received his primary education from District Eight and District Fifty-Eight rural schools and later attended and graduated from Alma High School, with the class of 1955.
Following his education, Jim farmed with his mother and uncles on the family farm.
On May 2, 1964, Jim was united in marriage to Rebecca "Becky" Gilbert in Pittsford, Michigan, and to this union, four children were born: Paul, Nora, Brenda, and Brian. The couple made their home on the farm near Alma.
Jim enjoyed Tuesday night bowling league and singing in the men's quartet. He loved spending time as a family and on Sunday afternoons when the kids were young they would be together to sing and play the guitar.
He was a member of the Alma Evangelical Free Church where he taught Sunday school, sang in the church choir, served as a deacon, and led the youth group with Becky. Later he became a member of the United Methodist Church in Alma. Jim was very active in his community serving on several boards including the rural fire protection board, co-op board, school board, and the FSA board. One of the highlights of his school board service was presenting an Alma High School diploma to each of his four children.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; one nephew, John Groman; and one brother-in-law, Gil Groman.
Jim is survived by his wife, Rebecca of Alma; four children: Paul Seyler and his wife, Cindy of Missouri City, Texas; Nora Christensen and her husband, Todd of Alma; Brenda Engleman and her husband, Mark of Adel, Iowa; and Brian Seyler and his wife, Katie of Alma; 11 grandchildren: Lauren Peitzmeier and her husband Jacob of Grand Island, Nebraska; Regan Reel and her husband, Jonny of Adel, Iowa; Rachel Seyler and her fiancé, Brian Lyster of Dallas, Texas; Sydney McLaughlin and her husband, Reece of San Diego, California; Cameron Seyler of Missouri City; Karri Christensen of Alma; Justin Seyler of Missouri City; Delaney Seyler of Alma; Grant Engleman of Adel; Parker Seyler of Alma; and Bristol Seyler of Alma; two great-grandchildren: Jett McLaughlin; and Carter Reel; two sisters: Mary Jane Groman; and Jean Standish and her husband, Robert; four sisters-in-law: Phyllis Mouw and her husband, Richard; Kay Nussey and her husband, Lowell; Kara Shales; Joanne Gilbert-Cannon and her husband, James; and a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 19, 2022 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with family greeting friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Bauer-Torrey & Mach Funeral Home in Alma.
A memorial has been established in Jim's honor, and kindly suggested to the family for later designation.
