A private family-only graveside service for James V "Jim" Englund will be held on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at Moses Hill Cemetery, Loomis, Nebraska, with Pastor Brad Perry officiating.
Jim Englund, 87 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at Christian Homes Care Community in Holdrege. Jim was born at Holdrege Hospital on March 1, 1938, the 8th of eight children born to Arthur G. and Judith A. (Carlson) Englund. He received his primary education from Holdrege Public Schools and was a member of the Holdrege High School class of 1958.
Following his education and due to the passing of his father, Jim helped farm the family farm alongside his oldest brother, LaMont, but later he branched off to farm on his own.
On February 15, 1964, Jim was united in marriage to Edna L Bergsten at Immanuel Lutheran in Bertrand. To this union three daughters were born: Julie, Connie and Susan. The couple made their home north of Holdrege, Funk and then back to Holdrege.
Jim's passion was around classic cars, junk yarding and farming. He also possessed a gift of gab which his daughters often said, "He could talk paint off the side of a house". This is a gift he passed on to his daughters. He especially enjoyed gabbing with the guys at Tri-City Auto Parts and Rapid Lube in Holdrege once he retired. His greatest joys were his grandchildren: Andrew and Sara Maaske, Sydney and Jonas Hansen and Brandi, Michael and Alex McConnell. He took special joy in his great grandson, Westyn McConnell, who arrived on August 4, 2025.
He was a member of Moses Hill Covenant Church, Loomis, NE.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents: Arthur and Judith Englund; three brothers: LaMont Englund; LaVern Englund; Paul Englund and his wife, Shirley; two sisters, Inez McElvain and her husband, Bob; Grace Petersen and her husband, Don; one sister-in-law, Donna Englund.
Jim is survived by his wife, Edna Englund of Holdrege; three daughters: Julie Maaske of Holdrege; Connie Hansen and her husband, Steve of Minden, Nebraska; and Susan McConnell and her husband, Russell of Holdrege; grandchildren: Andrew Maaske and his fiancé, Emily Luenenborg of Lincoln; Sara Klenke and her husband, Zach of Lincoln; Sydney Hansen of Columbus, Nebraska; Jonas Hansen of Minden; Brandi McConnell and family of Holdrege; Michael McConnell and family of Alma; and Alex McConnell and fiancé, Trinity Hartsock and great grandson, Westyn, of Holdrege; one brother, Dale Englund of San Jose, California; sisters-in-law: Jean Englund of Kearney; LaDonna Weismann and her husband, Max of Holdrege, Sandra Englund of Santa Clara, California; and Jim Karloff and his wife, Helen of Hastings, Nebraska plus a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends.
