James Lee "Jimmy" Van Slyke, 20 years of age, of Arapahoe, Nebraska (formerly of Kearney, Nebraska) passed away on Tuesday, June 9, 2009 at his mother's home in Arapahoe. Jimmy was born January 10, 1989 at Phoenix, Arizona, the son of Vernon and Virginia (Smouse) Van Slyke. He received his primary education from Catalina, Arizona and then attended Kearney Public Schools for junior and senior high.

Following his education, Jimmy was unable to work due to many health problems. Even though life was difficult he had a special way of touching the lives of those he came into contact with, especially his family. While in Kearney, Jimmy had a special bond with Officer Hunt of the Buffalo County Sheriffs Department. Officer Hunt and Jimmy's adopted brother, Big James Fountain served as mentors and good friends during difficult times in life.

He loved listening to music, watching movies, enjoyed taking long walks down country roads, and was a fanatic about cars. Many special friendship bonds were formed throughout the years, as part of the "Dog Pound" group in Kearney.

He leaves to mourn his passing his mother, Virginia Wyscarver of Arapahoe; two brothers: Christopher Faulkner and his wife, Keila of Arapahoe and Shawn Rappolt of Arapahoe; adopted sisters: Teresa Hallgarimson and her husband, Jay of Phoenix, Arizona and Wendy Lawless of Kearney; special uncle, Albert Hertel of Arapahoe; and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Vernon Van Slyke and his grandparents.

There will be no visitation, the family has chosen cremation.

A memorial has been established in his memory and kindly suggested to the family.
