Janet Lee Berry, 77 years of age, of Lincoln, Nebraska, formerly of Bertrand, passed away on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, at Holmes Lake Rehab and Care Center in Lincoln. Janet was born January 1, 1947, in Holdrege, Nebraska, the eldest of three children born to Paul J. and Fern Leatric (Mason) Johnson. She received her education from Bertrand Public Schools, graduating from Bertrand High School with the class of 1965. She then pursued higher education from Kearney State College, and then attended the Practical Nursing Program, graduating in 1967 with her LPN license.
Following her education, she was united in marriage to Delmer Berry on September 30, 1967 and to this union two children were born: Lisa and Patrick. They made their home in York, Nebraska, where Janet worked at York General Hospital. The family then relocated to Holdrege, until settling in Bertrand in 1972. Janet was a dedicated and compassionate LPN at Phelps Memorial Health Center for over four decades, retiring in 2011. Delmer and Janet were also owners of "Berry's Jack and Jill" in Bertrand. The couple enjoyed over 49 years together. Delmer preceded her in death in November of 2016.
Janet had a great love for nursing. She was known as a great night nurse, who always kept her fellow nurses fed, provided comedy at the nurse's station, and loved to rock the newborns. She was also known to be persistent to get patients up and going quick but always gave the best back rubs to each one.
Janet was a fabulous cook and her house was always open to anyone, especially her kids' friends, and she loved to host her family for the holidays. She had a passion for gardening, loved her wiener dogs, traveling to Arizona, and camping was a favorite past-time at Methodist Cove. One of her favorite spots was in her own backyard, digging in her garden or flowers, and listening to the Purple Martins. But most of all, Mom and Grandma were her favorite titles. Janet was her families' greatest cheerleader and she enjoyed attending all of her grandchildren's activities and events.
Besides her husband and parents; she was preceded in death by her father-in-law and mother-in-law: Elmer and Faye (Schroder) Berry; four brothers-in-law: Don Berry, Dennis Berry, and Dean Berry and his wife, Kay; and Ed Schriner; and a sister-in-law, Detta Duval.
Janet leaves to celebrate her life; her two children: Lisa Ford and her husband, Steve of Lincoln, Nebraska; and Patrick Berry and his wife, Keri of Bertrand; four grandchildren: Alexa and Laurel Berry, both of Omaha, Nebraska; and Averi and Mason Ford, both of Lincoln; two brothers: Bob Johnson and his wife, Connie of Bertrand; and Kenny Johnson and his wife, Susan of Holdrege; four sisters-in-law: LuEtta Berry of Holdrege; Judy Berry of Illinois; Doris Ann Schriner of Holdrege; and Diane Sell and her husband, Jim of Holdrege; one brother-in-law: Larry Duval of Holdrege, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
