A Graveside Service for Janet McClaren will be held on Tuesday, June 28, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. at the Moses Hill Cemetery in rural Phelps County, Nebraska with Pastor Jean Clayton officiating.
Janet Lee Hunnicutt McClaren, 88 years of age, passed away on June 14, 2022 in Prescott, Arizona. She was born on September 4, 1933, in Holdrege, Nebraska, to Robert W. and Bernice "Bea" E. Hunnicutt. She attended school at Kearney High School, graduating with the class of 1951. Following her graduation, Janet worked at Bell Telephone as a telephone switchboard operator.
On June 5, 1954, she was united in marriage to Alfred Marvin McClaren and this union was blessed with three children: Nancy, David, and Susan. The family made their home in Loomis until moving to California in 1964, where Alfred worked in the aerospace industry and Janet worked as a bookkeeper.
In 1994, they retired to Prescott, Arizona, where they enjoyed camping and traveling often to Nebraska and Kansas for class reunions and seeing friends and family.
Janet was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church along with her husband in Prescott.
She enjoyed reading, lunch with the ladies, and polka dancing, but most of all, she treasured all the time spent with her family. She will be remembered for her quick wit and sense of humor and her love for friends and family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Alfred, in 2021, her youngest daughter, Susan, in 2012; and two sisters: Patty Joanne Hunnicutt and Marlyn Woodward.
Janet leaves to celebrate her life; her children: Nancy Lopez and her husband, Sam, of Garden Grove, California; and her son, David McClaren, of Moreno Valley, California; her grandchildren: Kristian and Justin Ottersbach; Shannon and Sarah Lopez; and Danny and Donny McClaren; sister, Judy Pierce Diamond; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
There will be no visitation, viewing, or memorial book signing the evening prior to the service.
