Graveside Services for Janet A. Shears will be conducted at Prairie Home Cemetery in Holdrege, Nebraska on Monday, June 22, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Buck Linton-Hendrick officiating.

Janet Agnes Shears, 71 years of age, of Holdrege, Nebraska passed away on Thursday, June 18, 2009 at Holdrege Memorial Homes.

Janet was born May 4, 1938 on her grandparents' farm at Pleasant Hill east of Arnold, Nebraska, the oldest of two daughters of George William and Gwendolyn Maxine (Eddy) McFarland. Janet received her education at Arnold and graduated from Arnold High School with the class of 1956.

On May 24, 1960 she was united in marriage to Bernard W. Shears and to this union three children were born: Sidney, Sharell and Bernard, Jr.

The family made their home in Franklin where they managed the local service station. In 1980 they moved to Holdrege where Janet was a sales clerk for Medicine Chest until her retirement.

Janet was a member of the Methodist Church. She also loved reading, enjoyed watching and feeding birds, growing flowers and occasionally going fishing with Bernard.

Besides her parents she was preceded in death by one son, Bernard Woodrow Shears, Jr..
Janet leaves to mourn her passing, her husband, Bernard; 2 daughters, Sidney Fouts and her husband, Donald of McCool Junction, Nebraska, Sharell Hilbrink and her husband, Steven of Phillipsburg, Kansas; 5 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren; sister, Connie Lawrence and her husband, Merrill of Emerson, Iowa, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Janet will lie in state at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege on Monday, June 22, 2009 from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon.

A memorial has been established in her memory and will be designated at a later date.
