Private Graveside Memorial Services for Janette G. (Oakley) Watkins will be held on Saturday, September 9, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at the Dobyville Cemetery, Burnet County, Burnet, Texas.
Janette Gayle (Oakley) Watkins, 80 years of age, of Arapahoe, Nebraska, formerly of Canyon, Texas, passed away on Monday, June 24, 2017 at the Good Samaritan Society in Arapahoe. Janette was born February 14, 1937 in Hico, Texas, the youngest of five children born to Charles and Ollie Mae (Thomasson) Oakley. Janette graduated from Early High School in Early, Texas with the class of 1955.
In 1961, Janette was united in marriage to Darrell Watkins in Brownwood, Texas and together they raised four children: Royce, Doug, Darla and Dana. Janette worked as a Medical Transcriptionist at the Neblett Clinic in Canyon for numerous doctors, including Dr. Carroll Moore.
Janette enjoyed spending time with her family, square dancing and had special place in her heart for all animals. Later in life, she became known as "MeMaw", as she made many cherished memories with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was a member of Washington Avenue Christian Church in Amarillo, Texas.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; brothers, Charles Darwin Oakley and Don Oakley; brothers-in-law, Truett Myrick, Cecil Pinson and Joe Stubblefield; son, Royce Watkins in 2015; and niece, Patti Taylor in 2016.
Janette leaves to celebrate her life; her children: Doug Watkins and his wife, Tamara of Overland Park, Kansas, Darla Travis and her husband, Dick of rural Elm Creek, Nebraska and Dana White and her husband, Toby of Amarillo, Texas; daughter-in-law, Sue Watkins of Midland, Texas; seven grandchildren: Andy (Randi), Travis (Kay), Emily, Taylor (Sean), Dillon, Bailey (Reagan), and Alex; six great-grandchildren: Lily, Stetson, Chloe, Greyson, Claymore, Everett; two sisters: Lorea Myrick of Brenham, Texas and Patricia Stubblfield of San Angelo, Texas; sister-in-law, Zelda Oakley of Brownwood, Texas; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The family is honoring Janette's wish for cremation. There will be no memorial book signing or visitation.
A memorial has been established in Janette's honor and will be designated at a later date.
