A private family graveside service for Janice J. (Layton) Naslund will be held on Friday, September 12, 2025, at the Prairie Home Cemetery in Holdrege, Nebraska, with Rev. Dr. W. Kirwin Stewart Jr. officiating

Janice Joann (Layton) Naslund, 83 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Monday, September 8, 2025, at her home, surrounded by her family. Janice was born in Gordon, Nebraska, on May 8, 1942, the eighth of eleven children, born to Albert and Zella (Cady) Layton. She received her education at Pringle Public School and then attended Custer Public School. She enjoyed participating in the choir during her school years.

On July 27, 1979, Janice was united in marriage to Jim Naslund, and they lovingly raised her boys together: Butch, Patrick, Robert, Mark, and Kelly. The family made their home for a few years in Hanna, Wyoming, where she was employed as a dispatcher for the Police Department, and then in Council Bluffs, Iowa, where she worked in the cafeteria at Lewis Central High School. In 1992, Jim and Janice moved to Holdrege, and she started working for Mosaic.

Janice enjoyed camping and crossword puzzles. She relished reading and could easily read a book a day. Janice collected angels and dolls. She loved spending time with family and traveling. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.

Janice was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jim Naslund; nine siblings: Phyllis, Bob, Violet, Betty, Connie, Keith, Arlene, Pauline, Dorothy; and a sister-in-law, Bonnie Naslund.

Janice is survived by her children: Butch Braunersrither of Holdrege; Patrick Braunersrither of Holdrege; Robert Braunersrither and his wife, Nancy of Council Bluffs, Iowa; Mark Braunersrither of Holdrege; and Kelly Naslund and his wife, Jane of Kearney; and a host of grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Maxine and her husband, Jim of Chyanne, Wyoming; one brother-in-law, Ronald Naslund and his wife, Ruby of Alpha, Illinois; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege on Thursday, September 11, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

A memorial has been established in Janice's honor and has kindly been suggested for later designation.
