Mass of Christian Burial for Janice K. "Jan" Rebman will be held on Tuesday, October 11, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Orleans, Nebraska with Father Jamie Hottovy as Celebrant. Interment will follow at the Alma Cemetery at Alma, Nebraska.
Janice Kay "Jan" Rebman, 74 years of age, of Republican City, Nebraska, passed away on Thursday, October 6, 2016, at CHI Health – Good Samaritan in Kearney, Nebraska. Jan was born March 24, 1942 at the Oxford General Hospital in Oxford, Nebraska, the only daughter born to Gerald and Florence (Streff) Manley of Orleans. The family lived north of Orleans until Janice started school, then they moved one mile west of Orleans. Jan worked at the Orleans Equity Creamery the summer of 1959 and then graduated from Orleans High School with the class of 1960. She attended Business School at Lincoln School of Commerce in Lincoln, Nebraska. She moved to Holdrege, Nebraska in February 1961 and was employed by the First National Bank of Holdrege, where she met her future husband, Gene, of Republican City.
On May 12, 1962, Jan was united in marriage to Garold Eugene "Gene" Rebman at St. Mary's Catholic Church. The couple resided northwest of Republican City until moving to their present home in 1969. They lived in Republican City for four months due to a house fire and moved back to the farm in April 2002. The couple was blessed with three children: Brad, Kim and Pam.
Jan was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, where she was baptized, confirmed and played the organ for the Junior Choir. She was also a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Alma, Altar Society, serving as President for many years and teaching CCD, the Dine-a-Mite Extension Club and the Red Hatters.
Jan was a very proud mother and grandmother and enjoyed attending the many school activities. Doing for others was important; as was: church, gardening, mowing her yard, cooking meals, helping on the farm, driving and unloading trucks, and loading trucks fuller than almost possible! She also helped with raising hogs and never wanted to marry a farmer!!
Jan was preceded in death by; her parents; mother-in-law and father-in-law: Rastus and Leona Rebman; husband, Gene in 2001; and brother-in-law; Keith in 1972.
Jan leaves to celebrate her life: her son, Brad Rebman and his wife, Patty of rural Republican City; two daughters: Kim Rebman of Kearney and Pam Hipke and her husband, Gary of Grand Island, Nebraska; six grandchildren: Paige Young and her husband, Spencer, Brett and Bo Rebman, Christopher Meng, Allison Hipke and her fiancé, Todd Ziegelmeier and Ryan Hipke; two sisters-in-law: Janette VanButsel and her husband, Noah of Lincoln, Nebraska and Kay Wolf and her husband, Dave of rural Alma; along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Visitation will be held Monday, October 10, 2016 from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Orleans. A Rosary will be recited at 8:00 p.m. at the church.
A memorial has been established in Jan's honor and will be designated at a later date.
