Jean Brand

Graveside Services for H. Jean Brand will be held on Friday, December 29, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. at the Immanuel Cemetery in rural Bertrand, Nebraska with Reverend Kenton Birtell officiating.

H. Jean Brand, 92 years of age, of Bertrand, passed away on Sunday, December 24, 2017 at the Bertrand Nursing Home in Bertrand.  Jean was born November 28, 1925, on the Carl Holmquist family farm in rural Gosper County, five miles north of Bertrand, the youngest of three daughters, born to Carl Rudolph and Hulda (Holm) Holmquist.  Jean's mother died of Scarlet Fever when she was only 10 days old.  She was confirmed May 28, 1939, at the Westlanda Lutheran Church in Bertrand.  Jean received her primary education from District #22 in rural Phelps County, and later graduated from Bertrand Public School with class of 1943.  Following her graduation, she kept house and worked for her father until her marriage.

On April 3, 1946, Jean was united in marriage to Delmer L. Brand at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Bertrand, and to this union two children were born:  Dick and Peggy.  They made their home on the Gosper/Phelps county line, where Jean worked as a sales woman for Avon for many years, and also helped Delmer farm and raise cattle.  They later began to make their home at the Bertrand Nursing Home.

Jean was a 50 year member of the First United Methodist Church in Bertrand.  The couple loved to square dance, traveling in their motorhome throughout the United States and playing cards.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Delmer on February 7, 2013; sisters:  Grace Lurraine Watts and her husband, Roy and Doris A. Renken and her husband, Freddie; daughter-in-law, Mary Ann Brand; step-grandson, Kevrin Douglass; step-great-grandson, Clayton Herron; along with brothers-in-law and a sister-in-law.

Jean leaves to celebrate her life; her children:  Dick Brand and his wife, Margaruite of Loomis, Nebraska and Peggy Teghtmeyer and her husband, Garry of Scottsbluff, Nebraska;  three grandchildren:  Scott Brand, Stacy Brand and friend, Jessica Estes of Lincoln, Nebraska, and Anna Teghtmeyer of Scottsbluff; three step-grandchildren:  Tracy Kimberly and her husband, Brad of Holdrege, Crystal Herron and her husband, Todd of Rock Port, Missouri, and JaWayne Douglass of Lincoln; one great-granddaughter, Anastacia Brand; ten step-great-grandchildren:  Jacob Kimberly, Ryan Kimberly, Jaimie Douglass, Michael Douglass, Marccus Douglass, RyAnne Herron, Corwyn Herron, Brentyn Herron, Jaymes Herron and Benjamin Estes; along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Visitation will be held prior to the graveside service on Friday, December 29, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege.

A memorial has been established in Jean's honor and kindly suggested to the family for later designation.
