Jean Dahlgren

Graveside Services for Jean Dahlgren will be held on Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at the Moses Hill Cemetery in rural Phelps County, Nebraska with Chaplain Michael Freitag officiating.

Shelby Jean Dahlgren, 78 years of age, of Kearney, Nebraska (formerly of rural Funk, Nebraska) passed away on Thursday, June 8, 2017 at her daughter's home in Kearney. She was born June 8, 1939 in St. James, Missouri, the only daughter of four children born to Clifford P. and Beulah L. (Crum) Frey. She attended school at St. James Public Schools, and was an active member of Flag Springs, and Glad Tidings Mission Churches.

On April 16, 1971, Jean was united in marriage to the love of her life, Wilbur "Willie" Dahlgren of Funk. Jean and Willie also joined her daughters: Valerie and Veronica with his children: Kathy, Rosanna, Richard, and Frank to form their new family.

Jean enjoyed reading, sewing, puzzles, crafting, and maintaining the family home north of Funk. Going to garage sales with her best friend, Carrie or her daughters was her guilty pleasure. Jean and Willie enjoyed traveling abroad, boating, and dancing. The time spent with her grandchildren brought great joy, love, and laughter to her life.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by; her husband of 43 years, Wilbur on March 6, 2015; three grandchildren: Jonah Meyer, and Brandon and Calleen Larsen in infancy; brother, Melvin Frey; brother-in-law, Warner Dahlgren; and sister-in-law, Helen Frey.

She leaves to mourn her passing her daughters: Valerie K. Warnell of Kearney, and Veronica J. Larsen of Holdrege; step-children: Kathy Dahlgren of Kearney, Rosanna Meyer and her husband, Bryan of Bertrand, Nebraska, Rick Dahlgren and his wife, Jill of rural Axtell, and Frank Dahlgren of rural Funk; six grandchildren: Cammie Jambor and her husband, Jake, Cassie Warnell, and Adam, Andrew, Shelby, and Michael Larsen; seven step-grandchildren: Janet Johnson, Jenon Janelli, A.J. Dahlgren, Michelle Carroll and her husband, Tim, Dan Meyer and his wife, Rosalynda, Megan Ronne and her husband, Derek, and Zoe Dahlgren; two brothers: Paul O. Frey and Clifton L. Frey and his wife, Diane all of St. James; sister-in-law, Zola Maul of Kearney; along with a host of nieces, nephews, special extended Johnroe family: Tom, Jenny, Bonnie, Carol, and Lori and their families; and other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 13, 2017 from 11:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege.

A memorial has been established in Jean's honor and kindly suggested to the March of Dimes.
