Jean Englund, 100 years of age, passed away on Monday, September 28, 2026 at CHI Health Good Samaritan in Kearney, Nebraska. She was born on May 17, 1926, in Harlan County, Nebraska, the eldest of three daughters born to Lester Grant and Ellen Bertha (Anderson) Hendrickson. Jean grew up on a farm north of Huntley area, where she attended school and graduated from Huntley High School with the class of 1943. She later attended Kearney State College, for one year.
On March 21, 1949, Jean was united in marriage to A. LaMont Englund at her parents’ home. Their marriage was blessed with four children: Lee, Carol, Bradley, and Ronald. Together, Jean and LaMont made their home on the Englund family farm north of Holdrege, where they raised their family and shared many years working side by side and operating the family farm, Golden Tassel Farms, Inc.
Jean was a longtime member of Moses Hill Evangelical Covenant Church, where she was involved with many church boards, teaching Sunday school, and lady’s groups. Her faith shaped the way she lived and the way she cared for those around her. Jean volunteered for many years at the Phelps Memorial Health Center front desk.
Jean loved needlepoint and tending to her large garden. She also enjoyed traveling with LaMont, and the two shared many experiences together during their 67 years of marriage. Jean and LaMont shared a life deeply rooted in family, faith, farming, and their Phelps County community.
Besides her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her husband, LaMont; her daughter, Carol (Englund) Dolnicek, in 2003; her sister, Joy Berquist and her husband Lloyd; sisters-in-law: Grace Peterson and her husband, Donald; Inez McElvain and her husband, Bob; and Donna Englund; brothers-in-law: Dr. Roger Pentz; Roger Moline; LaVern Englund; Paul Englund and his wife, Shirley; and James Englund.
Jean leaves to cherish her memory her three sons: Lee Englund and his wife, Connie of Kearney, Nebraska; Brad Englund of Kearney; and Ron Englund and his wife, Linda of Holdrege; a son-in-law, Terry Dolnicek and his wife, Pat of Omaha, Nebraska; nine grandchildren: Daren Englund and his wife, Andrea; Jonathan Englund and his wife, Lindsey; Lori Mollring and her husband, Nate; Rick Arch and his wife, Sherry; Melissa Ryan and her husband, Shawn; Morgan Thomas and her husband, Blake; Chyne Dietz and his wife, Alisha; Blair Englund; and Brianne Englund and her significant other, Phillip Abbey; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson, Kenai; her sister, Patricia Pentz of Lexington, Nebraska; three sisters-in-law: Edna Englund of Holdrege; Sandra Englund of Santa Clara, California; and LaDonna Weismann and her husband, Max of Holdrege; one brother-in-law, Dale Englund of California; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
