A Graveside Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. at the Moses Hill Cemetery in rural Phelps County, Nebraska.

Shirley "Jean" Linder, 92 years of age, of Holdrege, formerly of Loomis, Nebraska, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, December 19, 2024 at Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege. Jean was born January 18, 1932, in Holdrege, the eldest of two daughters, born to Carl and Cecelia (Nelson) Lanquist. She received her primary education from a country school and then attended Loomis Public Schools, graduating with the class of 1950.

On December 28, 1951, Jean was united in marriage to Robert J. "Bob" Linder, and to this union three sons were born:  Gregory, Jon, and James.  The family made their home in Loomis, until moving to Bob's parents' farm.  In 1965, Bob and Jean bought the family farm, and expanded the farming operation through the years with Jean's parents' farms as well. On April 10, 1971, they lost their son, Jon in a farm accident at the age of 15 ½ years. The family continued to farm and feed cattle at Linder Stock Farm.

They were active members of the Loomis United Methodist Church, where Jean served in many capacities. Bob and Jean were Stewardship Representatives for Back to the Bible Ministry.  They later transferred their membership to Trinity Evangelical Free Church in Holdrege, and also were members of the Gideon's International Ministry.

She also was a hospice volunteer, volunteer at the Christian Homes Care Community, and the Phelps County Senior Center.

In January of 1991, they rededicated their lives to Christ, and enjoyed teaching under Dr. Roger Fredrickson at the Holdrege Baptist Church.

Bob and Jean spent 13 winters at their winter home in the St. Petersburg, Florida, and later 6 winters in the Rio Grande Valley in Donna, Texas in a retirement park. They enjoyed traveling, and visited many foreign countries, and went on cruises together.  In later years, they made many friendships on tours within the United States. Most of all, Jean's greatest joy was her grandchildren, and great-grandsons.

Besides her parents and in-laws, Mervin and Blanche Linder; Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Bob; two sons: Jon Linder; and Jim Linder; daughter-in-law, Donna Linder; sister, Joan Towers and husband, Tom; and brother-in-law, Richard Linder and wife, Pat.

She leaves to celebrate her life; her son, Greg Linder and his wife, Sharon of Loomis; daughter-in-law, Stacy Osborn of Kearney; seven grandchildren:  Charlie Linder and his wife, Abby; Kendra Virgil and her husband, Tim; Erica Regan and her husband, Patrick; Mark Linder and his wife, Nina; Jake Linder and his wife, Lexi; Jessica Jones; and Jeremy Miller; six great-grandsons:  Owen, Quentin and Morgan Virgil; Theodore Regan; Milo Linder; and Kyler Jones; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
