Jean Meyer

Memorial Services for Jean Meyer will be held on Saturday, June 22, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at Hope Lutheran Church in rural Smithfield, Nebraska with Pastor Daniel Landin officiating.  Inurnment will follow at the Hope Lutheran Cemetery in rural Gosper County, Nebraska.

Jean Meyer, 89 years of age, of Bertrand, Nebraska, passed away on Saturday, June 1, 2019 at the Bertrand Nursing Home in Bertrand.  Jean was born December 17, 1929 in Holdrege, Nebraska, one of two children born to Lester and Leta (Bard) Cobb.  Jean was raised at the Christian Homes Orphanage and received her education from Holdrege Public Schools and graduated from Holdrege High School with the class of 1948.  While roller-skating one evening in Holdrege, Jean met Robert H. Meyer, a farm boy from Bertrand.

On September 22, 1948, Jean was united in marriage to Robert.  The couple was blessed with four children:  Alan, Bryan, Dale and Carla.  They made their home on a farm, seven miles north of Bertrand.

She enjoyed flower gardening; reading; and was an amazing cook, teaching her children and grandchildren recipes to be passed on for generations.  Jean especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, and in later years, her great-grandchildren.

In the early 1960s, Jean began working at the Bank of Bertrand as a Bookkeeper and Teller.  She then began working as a state representative for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska, and Central States Mutual of Omaha, for a number of years.  Following her "retirement", she volunteered helping others with their insurance needs.

She is a member of the Hope Lutheran Church.

Jean was preceded in death by; her parents; her husband, Robert; son, Alan Meyer; and grandson, Jonah Meyer.

She leaves to celebrate her life; her three children: Bryan Meyer and his wife, Rosanna of Bertrand; Dale Meyer and his wife, Kathleen of Middlesex, England; and Carla McGrath and her husband, Rick of St. Paul, Minnesota; five grandchildren:  Michelle Carroll and her husband, Tim of Grand Island, Nebraska; Daniel Meyer and his wife, Rosalynda of El Paso, Texas; Robert A. Meyer of Phoenix, Arizona; Hannah Meyer of Middlesex; and Aoife Meyer of Middlesex; seven great-grandchildren:  Elijah, Isaac, Owen, Keira, Lincoln, Vivian, and Bradley; brother, Ray Bard of White Lake, Michigan; four sisters-in-law:  Marlene McPeck of Redlands, California; Elanie Bosworth of Ord, Nebraska; Virginia Grafe of Bertrand; and Sharlene Meyer of Gothenburg, Nebraska;  along with many extended family and many friends.

There will be no visitation.  The family has honored Jean's wish for cremation.

A memorial has been established in Jean's honor and kindly suggested to the family for later designation.
