Jeremiah Jacob Ford, 36 years of age, of Bertrand, passed away on Wednesday, December 20, 2017, near Darr, Nebraska, as the result of a single semi-truck accident on Interstate 80. Jeremiah was born June 2, 1981 at Kearney, Nebraska, the eldest of four children born to John and Elizabeth (Johnson) Ford. Jeremiah was baptized and confirmed at the Adullam Lutheran Church, where he remained a member his entire life. He received his education from Bertrand Community School, and graduated from Bertrand High School with the class of 2000. During high school, he enjoyed band, choir, and being a member of the National Honor Society. During this time, Jeremiah was also very active with his church youth group. Jeremiah then pursued higher education in Denton, Texas, where he studied computer technology for two years. Jeremiah began his working career in the cabinetry making business with his cousin, Dean Johnson. He then developed his passion for over-the-road trucking, driving coast to coast for Steven's Transport out of Dallas, Texas. In the spring of 2011, Jeremiah returned home to Bertrand, and was a dedicated employee at MRK Trucking at Lexington, Nebraska.
Jeremiah had a huge heart for children, and never walked by a baby or small child without interacting with them in his special way. He purely loved little children, and this was a big part of who he was. Jeremiah never turned down a chance to help others, whether it was helping with hurricane relief, working at the seed shed of Hi-Line Ag in Bertrand, or giving of himself at his church; he devoted his life giving to those in need. In his spare time, Jeremiah also enjoyed woodworking, and spending time with his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Mary Lou Johnson, and his paternal grandfather, Richard "Dick" Ford.
He leaves to celebrate his life: his parents; John and Liz Ford of Bertrand; two brothers - SFC Andrew Ford and his wife, Megan, of Chico, California, and Jeff Ford and his wife, Tirsten, of Bertrand; one sister, Danielle Pritts and her husband, Adam, of Kearney, Nebraska; grandfather, Eldean "Zeke" Johnson of rural Bertrand; grandmother, Shirley Ford of Bertrand; aunts and uncles - Bill Ford and his wife, Martha; Dave Ford and his wife, Leigh; and Rod Ford and his wife, Robin, all of Bertrand; Scott Johnson and his wife, Marcyne, of Doniphan, Nebraska; Kathy Moseley and her husband, Vaughn, of Edmond, Oklahoma, Steve Johnson of Bertrand; and Kim Johnson of Bertrand; five nieces and nephews: Reagyn, Kameron, Wylie, MacKenzie, and Elliott; and a host of cousins, other relatives, and many friends.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 26, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m – 7:30 p.m. at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Bertrand.
A memorial has been established in Jeremiah's honor, and will be designated at a later date by the family.
