A memorial service to honor and celebrate the lives of Jerry and Barbara Feese will be held on May 20, 2024, at 2:30 pm at the Bauer-Torrey & Mach Funeral Home in Alma with Pastor Dave Irwin officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Alma Cemetery in Alma, Nebraska with Military Honors provided by the Fay Cady American Legion Post #118 in conjunction with the United States Navy Funeral Honors Team. Relatives and friends are warmly invited to attend the services.
Jerry and Barbara Feese, residents of Alma, Nebraska for over 25 years, relocated to Roanoke, Virginia in 2020. Their journey together spanned over 64 years of marriage before Jerry passed away peacefully on October 17, 2020, followed by Barbara on October 4, 2023.
Jerry was born on June 26, 1936 in Holdrege. Growing up in Alma, he was known for his athletic prowess and playful sense of humor. Jerry's stories of his youthful pranks brought laughter to his friends and family, especially his grandchildren.
After high school, Jerry joined the United States Navy in 1954. While serving in the Navy, he had varying responsibilities and positions during his long tenure, including a tour during the Vietnam war, achieving rank of Chief Petty Officer. After serving honorably for over 20 years, he retired and began a new chapter while still living in California, later returning to Alma to be near family, including Jerry's father, Reed Feese of Alma, mother and stepfather, Lois and Bob Aspegren of Wilcox; and Barbara's father, Wendell Olson of Orleans.
While in Alma, Jerry enjoyed playing golf, achieving the elusive "hole in one" at the local golf course. He also enjoyed spending mornings drinking coffee with friends at Bugby's. In his golden years, he found true fulfillment when he became a bus driver for the Alma School District, where he cherished his daily interactions with the students. A day rarely went by that he didn't have a story about his "kids on the bus".
Barbara was born on February 17, 1938 and grew up on a farm in Orleans. She excelled in school and furthered her education when her children were older. She worked in civil service in various roles and increasing level of responsibility. Barbara also pursued other interests, including starting a successful wedding videography business.
In Alma, Barbara found true fulfillment in her employment with social services. Her compassion shone brightly through her work, aiding families in transition, demonstrating her love of people and her kindness.
Barbara loved to dance, especially to songs by Elvis Presley, attend auctions, and gardening. She also loved to engage her family in lively discussions about world events. Her enthusiasm extended to NASCAR and staying informed through her favorite news outlets.
Serving in the military created new beginnings for Jerry and Barbara as they uprooted and moved several times, including living in Florida, Virginia, Texas, Tennessee, Midway Island, Washington and California, always nurturing a home filled with love and laughter. The two raised four children to be independent, thoughtful, respectful and honest.
Jerry and Barbara are the beloved parents of Randy Feese and his wife Denise of Lincoln, Nebraska, Kelly and her husband Paul Angelico of Chatham-Cape Cod, Massachusetts, Tammy and her husband Jim Mills of Roanoke, Virginia, and their late son, Terry. Jerry had one sibling; his sister, Sherry Saylor of Arapahoe; and Barbara one brother, Larry Olson of Holdrege. Their legacy also includes their grandchildren Holly Feese, Scott Feese (and his wife Kristin), Jaycee Mills and Madison Mills, and great-grandchildren, Hiram and Tabitha Feese. Jerry and Barbara are also survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and cousins.
Jerry and Barbara will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved them. We also extend our gratitude to Jerry for his dedicated service to the country.
A memorial has been established in Jerry and Barbara's honor, and kindly suggested to the family for later designation.
