Jerry D Murphy

Private family memorial graveside services for Jerry D. Murphy will be held at a later date in the Immanuel Cemetery at Bertrand, Nebraska.

Jerry Dean Murphy, 67 years of age, of Bertrand, passed away on Wednesday, October 22, 2014 at the Bertrand Nursing Home.  He was born June 8, 1947 at Gothenburg, Nebraska, the second of four children of James Bernard and Evelyn Lucille (Miller) Murphy.  He began his education at Gothenburg until the family moved to Holdrege in 1955, where Jerry attended the Holdrege Public School System.

Following his education, Jerry worked as a farmhand in the Bertrand area, California and Nevada as well.  Later in years, Jerry met Ruby (Beck) Grothaus and the couple were united in marriage at the United Methodist Church in Bertrand.  Ruby preceded him in death.

Jerry loved hunting, fishing, camping, Bingo, enjoyed playing cards and frequented the slots.

He leaves to mourn his passing; his brother, Johnny Murphy of Bertrand; one sister, Susan Kay Stewart of Loup City, Nebraska; sister-in-law, Margie Murphy of Holdrege; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Terry L. Murphy, Sr.

There will be no visitation, the family is honoring Jerry's wish for cremation.

A memorial has been established in Jerry's honor and will be designated at a later date.
