Funeral Services for Jim R. Naslund will be conducted from the First Presbyterian Church in Holdrege, Nebraska on Thursday, August 6, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. with Reverend Dr. W. Kirwin Stewart, Jr., officiating. Interment will be in the Prairie Home Cemetery at Holdrege.
Jim R. Naslund, 73 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Monday, August 3, 2009 at the Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege. Jeams Ross "Jim" Naslund was born February 19, 1936 at Galesburg, Illinois, the eldest of three children born to Charles R. and Jewell (Wilkins) Naslund. He received his primary education from Altona, Illinois and then graduated from R.O.V.A. High School in Oneida, Illinois. Following his education, Jim engaged in farming and later he and his brother took over their father's trucking business, Naslund Brothers Trucking at Altona. Jim also drove for Pruitt Trucking for many years and welded at the Victoria Coal Mine in Victoria, Illinois. He was blessed with five daughters: Jamie, Cindy, Tina, Kim, and Trudy.
In 1978 he relocated to Hanna, Wyoming, where he was employed as a Master Mechanic and Foreman for Arch Mineral. On July 27, 1979 he was united in marriage to Janice J. Layton and he lovingly accepted Janice's children as his own: Butch, Patrick, Robert, Mark and Kelly. The family made their home in Hanna for three years before moving to Council Bluffs, Iowa, where he was employed by Speedway Transportation. Jim was awarded the "Support Person of the Year" consecutively for many years during his employment. He also received the Nebraska Motor Carriers Award. In 1992, Jim and Janice moved to Holdrege, where Jim continued his employment at Speedway Transportation until his full retirement in 2001.
Jim was a true outdoorsman, who loved to hunt and fish, garden, camp and enjoyed watching baseball. He loved life to the fullest. Jim was a natural at being a people person and never met a stranger.
He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Janice of Holdrege; his children: Jamie Larkins and her husband, Larry of Henderson, Illinois, Tina Reed and her husband, Mark of Galesburg, Illinois, Kim Naslund of Holdrege, Trudy Larkins and her husband, Brian of Galesburg, Butch Braunersrither and his wife, Martha of Holdrege, Patrick Braunersrither of Holdrege, Robert Braunersrither and his wife, Nancy of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Mark Braunersrither of Holdrege and Kelly Naslund and his wife, Jane of Holdrege; and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one brother, Ronald Naslund and his wife, Ruby of Alpha, Illinios; one sister, Elaine Black of Colorado Springs, Colorado and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Cindy Lee; and a sister-in-law, Bonnie Naslund.
Visitation will be held at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege on Wednesday, August 5, 2009 from 1:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
A memorial has been established in his memory and will be designated at a later date.
