Joan Hunt, 84 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Friday, February 14, 2014 at the Christian Homes Care Community at Holdrege.

Joan was born May 17, 1929 at Liberty, Nebraska, the fifth of six children of Roy and Leona (Hallett) Ellison. She received her education in several schools in southeast Nebraska. Following her education, Joan began to be courted by her future husband, Dean Hunt from Orleans, Nebraska.

On June 24, 1947, Joan was united in marriage to Dean Gilbert Hunt at Norton, Kansas. To this union four children were born: Danny, Eugene, Jonell and Keith. Dean and Joan began farming with his father in the Orleans area until the spring of 1960, when they engaged in farming west of Ragan. In 1966, the Hunt family was recognized as one of the "Outstanding Farm Families" of Harlan County by the Soil Conservation Service. Joan loved being a farmwife, mother, and grandmother. On September 16, 1980, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dean.

As a young mother, Joan enjoyed many friendship bonds formed through the years as a member of the Hub-Bub Club. She loved to play cards, and was a member of several card clubs in years past. Her hobbies included tending to her flower garden, crocheting and sewing many items that she enjoyed sharing with her family and all the grandchildren have found memories of Grandma's immense collection of ceramic mice.

Besides her husband, Dean and her parents; Joan was preceded in death by two sons: Danny Hunt and Keith Hunt; two brothers: Ralph and Melvin; and two sisters: Marjorie and Dorothy.

She leaves to mourn her passing her son, Eugene Hunt and his wife, Gayla of Holdrege; daughter, Jonell Mueller and her husband, Brad of Funk; daughter-in-law, Patricia Hunt of Lincoln, Nebraska; twelve grandchildren; a host of great-grandchildren; one sister, Clara Alt of Lincoln; and several other relatives and friends.

To honor Joan's wish there will be no visitation and the casket will be closed.

A memorial has been established in Joan's honor and will be designated at a later date.
