John M. Anderson, 58 years of age, of Holdrege, Nebraska, passed away on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at his home in Holdrege. Private family services will be held at a later date.
John Michael Anderson was born May 17, 1956 at Holdrege, the sixth of ten children born to Harold E. "Shorty" and Lillian L. (Raymond) Anderson. He received his education from Holdrege Public Schools. Following his education, John began a lifetime career of driving truck. Throughout the years, he drove for Speedway Transportation in Holdrege, Clason Trucking in Beaver City, Bartels Trucking of Kearney and N & N Trucking also of Holdrege. Most recently he was employed as a loader operator for Werner Construction of Hastings, Nebraska. He also enjoyed assisting local farmers with harvest.
On August 14, 1993, he was united in marriage to Becky Bartlett in Kearney and to this union two daughters were born: Emmy and Madelyn. This marriage later ended in divorce.
John loved to fish, enjoyed hunting when he was younger, and was an avid NASCAR fan. Driving truck he was known by his CB handle as "Hippie John", this nickname carried on with him throughout the years. When he was growing up at home, John had found memories tinkering on cars with his father. He was confirmed at the Trinity Evangelical Free Church in Holdrege.
He was preceded in death by his father, Harold E. "Shorty" Anderson; brother, James at the age of 11 months; niece, Cynthia Anderson who passed away in infancy; and brother-in-law, Randy Ritterbush.
John is survived by his two daughters: Emmy Anderson of York, Nebraska and Madelyn Anderson of Harvard, Nebraska; his mother, Lillian Anderson of Grand Island, Nebraska; five sisters: Margaret VanZandt of Garnett, Kansas, Mary Glasgow and her husband, Cary of Denison, Texas, Marty McCune and her husband, Don of Hastings, Mardell Ritterbush of Hershey, Nebraska, and Marilynn Haines and her husband, Randy of Grand Island; three brothers: Joe Anderson and his wife, Anita of Bennett, Nebraska, Jerry Anderson of Lamars, Iowa, and Jeff Anderson and his wife, Jodi of Axtell, Nebraska; aunt, Betty Raymond of Funk, Nebraska; uncle, Art Soderholm of Holdrege; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
There will be no visitation, the family is honoring John's wish for cremation.
A memorial has been established in John's honor and will be designated at a later date.
